No, queer in this context doesn't hold the homosexual meaning but rather the 'strange/odd' meaning.

When put together with platonic it means a strange kind of platonic that seems like two people are in a romantic relationship without actually having any romantic feelings for each other. Queer platonic usually has two people that cuddle or kiss or do other 'couple-like' things without being romantically interested in each other.

Platonic = Just friends who don't kiss each other
Queer platonic = Just friends but WOULD kiss each other, just not get romantically involved

It applies to m/m, f/f, and m/f ships. The word queer doesn't imply homosexual in this context.

The only reason I know so much about this is because one of my friends queer-platonic ships my OTP.

... You know, I came across an image on 'Know Your Meme' that had listed 'How Tumblr categorizes sexual orientations' (or something like that), and my brain still hurts from trying to make heads or tails of these names/titles/labels.

I think I'm just old.

Anyone who isn't on tumblr thinks it's dumb (hell, even a lot of people on tumblr think it pretty stupid). This is actually the first time in a while I've seen it discussed. It's either become a lot less popular in the last six or so months or I've just been hanging around the right places

"Queerplatonic" is the definition of "trying too hard." Since when does having a BFF that you are super close to make you queer? Having deep platonic bonds is queer now? That really just gets my goat.

I always figured I'd identify any relationships of that nature involving me as moirallegiance. It's really a matter of which group of weirdoes you want to identify with: Homestuck fandom or Tumblr gender/sexuality/relationship special snowflakes.

I thought it was an asexual thing? I thought it's what they used for relationships that were romantic but not sexual. And that the queer isn't anything to do with queer as in gay, but the original meaning, strange/unusual/whatever, because non-sexual romantic relationships are definitely considered unusual/weird (or at least uncommon).

I don't think it's necessarily a horrible thing for asexual people to want a word for their relationships. I'm a lesbian and sometimes ID as queer but if people want to use the word in a different context with its original meaning it doesn't bother me.
