I don't usually like Cruise, but I actually really loved him as Lestat. I thought he was super handsome in the role, too. *shrug*

Me too. I thought he was handsome as well. But then he was with Brad Pitt who didn't look good as Louis for me. I love Pitt but he is one of those people who look better dressed down than dressed up. And prissy Louis was too much of a dress up.

I've always boggled at Pitt's styling in that movie. His makeup looked so... cakey.

Yeah, I thought this. Cruise was very pretty-handsome with the hair and the clothes. Brad Pitt just didn't quite do it for me. And I think he's really good looking in a lot of films, but I think you're right. Dressed fancy and with long hair, he just doesn't look great imo.

I agree. He did an absolutely fantastic job. And, honestly, I think a lot of his attractiveness can be attributed to the way in which he played the role: he didn't necessarily look hot, but he sure as fuck acted in a way that was.

I heard that Anne Rice at first didn't want Cruise to play Lestat - she really wanted Leonardo Dicaprio iirc? - but once she saw him she thought he was perfect for the role. Don't know if that's true or not.

When she was writing the books, she pictured Sting as Lestat. By the time they got around to making the movie, he wasn't interested in acting any more.

That was honestly my favourite Tom Cruise role, because I didn't think he could pull it off and he really surprised me. I'm just so used to seeing him as the same broody action hero, or the 80s bad boy, and I thought this was a nice break from his usual roles.
And yeah, I found him better-looking as Lestat than any other movie I've seen him in.

He just rubbed me the wrong way, but then again he often does. I only *really* liked him in Magnolia.

Me too! I was so happy whenever Cruise was in scene. I felt like he was the only part that was cast right. Or at least, he looked and acted like how I had him in my head from reading the books. Everyone else? Not so much. Especially Armand. What the hell were they thinking there? Let's take a red headed, Slavic teenage vampire and turn him into a thirty something, raven haired Spaniard. No one is going to notice the difference.

I just rewatched it the other day, and I am definitely on board with Lestat at the end 'Oh Louis, Louis, Louis, always WHINING'... Like, come ON man, unlive a little.

That was sort of my problem, too. For me, he was just too famous at that point - and mostly with vastly different roles. He, just didn't wok for me there.

Meh, I may be a bit biased because the movie was my first introduction to these characters (and what made me fall in love with them and subsequently check out the entire Vampire Chronicles book series), but I liked Tom Cruise as Lestat a lot. It also feels like it shouldn't work to have him as Lestat, but it does, IMO.

Armand on the other hand... I love Antonio Banderas as much as the next person, but how on Earth anyone thought that he was a good choice for an auburn-haired, angelic-faced boy, who was only 17 years old when he was turned, is anybody's guess!

My 14 year old self had never watched a Tom Cruise movie and didn't ever plan to. Except everyone was saying how awesome Interview With The Vampire was, so I gave it a go.

I spent half the movie dreading Tom Cruise showing up and the other going, "Tom Cruise... must be Lestat. TOM CRUISE IS LESTAT WHAT. LESTAT IS PERFECT HOW CAN HE BE PLAYED BY TOM CRUISE".
