(Anonymous) 2014-05-29 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)So, let's recap:
- This alternate universe has a "tar season" during which the roads are impassable. (Due to being on fire?)
- This is the main cuisine: http://en.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FCabbage_soup_diet
- Crabs apparently hang out at higher elevations, and fall on people's heads.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-29 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)I'm gonna go with due to being on fire.
There was another secret people thought was tar season anon that involved hazing and being put in "the spud hut" (I don't have that one bookmarked, so I'm not 100% sure). Maybe either there's a lot of potato cellars around or they really like this one restaurant from Princeton, Indiana

(Anonymous) 2014-05-29 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)The spud hut! They have pretzels AND potatoes!
...wait. IT'S LATVIA.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-30 12:03 am (UTC)(link)I'll be honest, I'm going a little spreadsheet anon here and making a list of these things. I can only hope to someday understand what tar season is like.

Then we should compile like a creepypasta about it or something, though I'm not so sure it's actually creepy XD
Did you see the GC thread about another tar season secret that predates the actual tar season one?

References to spud and cabbage clothes, field burning time and road melt. This has to be the same person, right?
I saved this image on the 26th of June '13 for reference. TAR SEASON ANON HAS BEEN ACTIVE FOR THAT LONG GUYS. OMG.

No mention of crabs, though.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-30 01:03 am (UTC)(link)Okay, buuuuuuuuuut I think "field burning time" is, like, an actual thing. I.e., something to do with changing the crops and/or burning the weeds preparatory to planting? Something like that.
....I got nothing on the spud-and-cabbage clothing, unless anon is referring to particular gear to wear while digging in the dirt (which you have to do for potatoes)...
Re: First recorded sighting of tar season anon:
I recall rather vividly passing a cane-field burning while on an overnight bus to Sydney. It's pretty damn noticeable when it happens after dark, and the highway runs right next to the cane fields.
