I can completely see it. Honestly, it's probably less of a crack ship than just about anything else in the prequels if you're judging purely by what's on the screen instead of what GL had in his mind and was unable to put on the screen. They have a fairly clear, well-portrayed interaction with each other. They're both suspicious of each other but also have some respect for each other. There's more that you can do with that than you can do with, for instance, Padme/Anakin (main attributes as portrayed on screen: lust, irritation, mindless slaughter, petty whining), or Anakin/Obi-Wan (main attributes as portrayed: irritation, frustration, petty whining), or even Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon (main attributes as portrayed: respect, irritation, petty whining).

So in other words, it's a perfectly valid prequel ship in the same way that Revenge of the Sith was the best of the prequel movies - it had a few moments of legitimately interesting well-acted and well set up emotional interaction between characters.

>Obi-Wan&Qui-Gon

THERE'S ALSO THE DEATH SCENE

IDK, man. I want them to make sense but I also think I'm horribly biased because I've friendshipped them since forever. Is their dynamic really that bad? *sighs* I fear I cannot see the flaws from behind my plot- and chemistry-improving goggles.

I'm probably being harsh there, I think they're definitely better than any ship involving Anakin (probably because... well... they don't involve Anakin) but I also think there's a lot of stuff that just doesn't really make sense in their relationship as portrayed and I think you do have to look past the writing at times and be a little selective. Much less than in the other ships though.

Somebody needs to write fic for this then!

(Anonymous) 2014-05-31 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen the movie but I think it's safe to say that Ewan MacGregor has insane chemistry with everyone.

Ewan even had chemistry with the CGI characters! Love him!

Who is the other person? It's been so long and I only passively watched those movies once...

Jango Fett, Boba Fett's dad and the person who was used to make the Clone Troopers.
/Boba has two daddies?

That's Jango Fett, played by Temuera Morrison.

It's so true. I felt the chemistry as well.

Perhaps Ewan McGregor was so relieved not to be acting against green screen that day that he just went for it, and silver screen sparks flew between them.

The Padme/Annakin scenes are shockingly bad. Even R2D2/C3PO have more chemistry than they do. Oh god, there is fic of R2D2/C3PO, isn't there? I don't want to find it.

I remember watching that fireplace love scene in cinema and the whole room kept groaning and complaining in exasperation because it dragged on for so long and was so terrible.

I'm sure there's more than one. That actually sounds like quite a niche (especially since "robots fucking" is a fairly popular concept in some fandoms)

People have shipped pairings with less material than that, OP. Go for it!

Well, I was all over the chemistry between Bail and Obi-Wan (too bad there are only a few fics that were any good), so go for it anon. If you see chemistry, you see chemistry. Nothing wrong with liking non-canon ships.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-31 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I would read that! Any decent recs?

Ok, OP, EVERYONE has way more chemistry together than Anakin/Padme.

There's a reason I shipped Obi-Wan/Anakin like whoa back in the day. And Obi-Wan/Padme, and to an extent, Obi-Wan/Bail (i refuse to accept that The Clone Wars novel Wild Space is non-canon. it was written to be a tie in anyway and it was GLORIOUS for the Bail/Obi-Wan snark and awesomeness), etc etc.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-31 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
To be honest, I always thought that the Anakin/Padmé romance was intentionally written to not be about sexual tension so much as two extraordinarily lonely people coming together. Anakin's idealization of Padmé often makes me think of this -- that the kid was super lonely and so he clung rather obsessively to the kindness she had shown him. It's also why he was psychotically terrified of her dying (especially after his mother's death) -- because he was afraid of losing that source of unconditional love.

For Padmé, I always kind of saw her as the type of person who was so devoted to her job/cause that she had never done anything for herself. And so she gravitated towards Anakin because of his "brokenness" especially after how his mother was killed. She wanted to fix him.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I always thought the films made it clear that theirs wasn't really a healthy relationship.

Your friend was not wrong lmao

I ship Obi-Wan/Darth Maul

I have no idea why

There is no explanation.

It just happened.

I could see it in a one-sided creepy/obsessive way in light of what goes on in the Clone Wars series. Maul is freaking obsessed with Obi-Wan in that, and outright murders his love interest, so...?

I ship Xanatos/Obi-Wan even though those books probably are not anywhere near canon.
