Oh come on, almost everyone got prettier in the show as opposed to the books. Even Ramsey with his big, gross worm lips got to be handsome in the show. That's how television rolls

sa

Woops, *Ramsay. EVERY TIME

(Anonymous) 2014-06-03 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Sam is way better looking than I imagined in the books, too.

And JORAH. Shit, Jorah has to be the biggest looks upgrade from books to television.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-03 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Sam is overweight and Jorah's looks don't really affect the character. He's not handsome but he's not mocked for his looks by society.

The fuck? What the fuck did you think Sam would look like?

If the actor who plays Sam is your example of Hollywood Pretty Person Casting then I'm not sure how you can stand looking in a mirror!

Hell, I'm not calling Sam ugly--I'm calling him NORMAL.

Sam is freakin' adorable. Most tubby guys don't do it for me but he's snugglable. That said, I would rather have sex with either Nick Frost (I think I'd fuck the whole trinity just out of respect) or Kevin James (Dude was better looking in his slimmer days but he has those wide shoulders that are manly as everything.)

The book series has a lot of hideous characters but for some reason Ramsay's description that "his lips are wide and meaty, wormy looking" stuck with me the most. WORM LIPS. ughhh

(Anonymous) 2014-06-03 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Didn't Joff have that description too? Doesn't Arya say something about them looking like worms crawling across his face? Or did I hallucinate that? It's been so long since I read GoT

(Anonymous) 2014-06-03 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
ayrt

I also don't remember too clearly but if so, that's also gross. What is with this man and worm lips?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-03 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It was actually Sansa. She thinks Joff has "worm lips" after she realizes what a little shit he is.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-04 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, book Joff is described as being extremely attractive. Sansa finds him pig disgusting once she discovers his true colors, though.

Are you complaining about THIS?!

DA

I am. Mostly because he shouldn't have come out unscathed in that fight. I mean, he was shirtless ffs that whole thing was a mess.

NEGL. The rest of that scene was shit, but damn was he hot. I'm kind of loving the fact that they gave him a GF who's almost as sadistic as he is.

But it completely ruins Ramsay's character and makes him seem like anything but a misogynist piece of shit who rapes women for fun. It's fucked up to me that they're trying to humanize Ramsay Bolton of all characters.

He still is a misogynist, sadistic piece of shit. He just happens to have a GF who's also a sadistic piece of shit.

Yeah, maybe he's getting a bit humanized, but I personally like villains who aren't 100% cartoon mustache-twirlers (see: wilding cannibals). Not to mention that he's still, like, a 90% cartoon mustache-twirler. He still hunts down women with his dogs. He still promises treaties of peace and then flays every surrendering man alive.

I don't think his character has been ruined by essentially saying "somewhat conventionally people with GF's can still be incredibly fucked up, dangerous, horrible people" vs "here's all the serial killer/rapist cliches that ever existed, now dial them up to eleven."

I also like the implication that getting off on torture and violence isn't a strictly "males only" thing. But that's just me.

Except he hasn't really shown any misogyny since he's tortured more men than he has women, and actually lets the woman he's with top him during sex (as if canon Ramsay would let that happen in a million years). Book Ramsay is a maladjusted psycho with no friends who rapes and abuses literally every woman he comes across, Myranda being there is flagrantly OOC and serves no purpose other more gratuitous T&A. I just find it weirdly sickening that they're trying to make this disgusting, one-dimensional piece of shit character sympathetic. Especially since, once the Jeyne plot happens, none of what he does to her will make much sense given his portrayal on the show thus far.

I'd appreciate the implication more if she had any real power, was a canon character, and wasn't just there for more pointless female nudity and sex scenes. But that's just me.

" I just find it weirdly sickening that they're trying to make this disgusting, one-dimensional piece of shit character sympathetic"

One-dimensional characters aren't interesting. I think they're trying to make him into a more interesting, realistic character, not make him sympathetic.

Re: But... but..

(Anonymous) 2014-06-04 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Because what the show really needs is more women being brutalised. And how does his not attacking women make him any more sympathetic? He's still the guy who spent an entire season systematically destroying another human being, hunts helpless people, flays men who've surrendered... I'm pretty sure everyone hates him. If you think that the presence of Myranda somehow miraculously renders him sympathetic, that's your problem.
