At least they are honest. I hate when actors are like "Yeah. I totally loved working on Piranha 4."

Every actor has a few movies they are ashamed to admit they were in. It's practically a rite of passage. Luckily, when they get older and their career is still going, instead of shame, they'll be able to look back and laugh at those movies.

It's better to show a little self-deprecation and humility when it comes to past duds, though. If you don't, it'll just mean more ammunition for critics and haters.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-04 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure they're trying to be humble and at the same time imply that Marvel's movie are, like, such an honor to work you, you guyssss.

The serious italicized and thrice copied font made me laugh.

But anyway it's being polite. No need to bite the hand that feeds you.

I don't think they have anything to be embarrassed of because most actors appear in their fair share of shitty films, but at least they're being honest about their opinion?

Plus, I mean...they haven't all been unwatchable or anything, so I think they're being a bit hard on themselves as well. People tend to do that.

But does it sadden you that they're embarrassed by their previous works?

Chris was so amazing in Sunshine. My favorite film that he's starred in (other than CA and CA-WS)

I'm not surprised. Personally, I love Not Another Teen Movie and I liked Cellular, but I don't blame Chris for finding them embarrassing. And as for Sebastian - I just take comfort in that implying he's even embarrassed by his time on OUAT. I look at that as his confirmation that he's forever done with that show and that's definitely a relief because he deserves better.

Would you prefer they tried to convince people shitty movies were great? Or do you honestly like their previous movies?

I actually liked "Kings" and didn't even know it was Sebastian Stan until someone mentioned it here in either the comments or another secret.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-04 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
What's the context of those pictures, by the way? Were they being asked about or shown their previous movies in a press conference?

I remember seeing Aaron Paul watching a clip of himself on 90210 and his reaction was great.

True, I don't think there is really anything to be ashamed of because a lot of actors have to start from the bottom and a lot of movies are shit, they can't all be great.

Though I do understand the embarrassment because I think it's a pretty normal reaction to look back and be a little embarassed at ourselves in the past.

I think it's the same idea with writing. You might look back at your earlier writing and cringe, at least I know I do.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-05 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I loved Stan in Kings.

In fact, when I saw the first CA movie, I couldn't place him at all and it bothered me so much until I looked him up on IMDB and it made me so happy it was the same guy from Kings, because I thought he was brilliant there. Kings didn't get the attention I thought it deserved and I didn't think many of the actors there were ever going to go on to bigger things because the show didn't blow up, so seeing Stan's success in CA & CA2 just makes me so happy.

tldr - loved Stan in Kings.

......have you seen the covenant though.
although to be fair it's glorious in a horrifying "oh my god someone wrote these words down and someone else approved it and they spent actual millions of dollars making this movie" sort of way.

Maryl Streep can't stand to watch her own movies. I'm okay with people being embarrassed by pas works. I mean, I don't look at my old fic most of the time because if I did I would start editing them to make them better and I only just wrote some of them a few months ago.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-05 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I don't care that they're embarrassed, but...a lot of people worked on those other movies. Even if they were terrible, don't shit on everyone else involved by saying it publicly.
nyxelestia: Rose Icon (Default)

Are YOU proud of every single thing you've made or done?

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2014-06-05 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Because hell, I can't read my own fics older than a few years. Pretty much anything I wrote before college makes me embarrassed, and I get a weird happy-cringe feeling when I get a review on those fics. That said, I have moved past the stage where I take down old fics I'm embarrassed by (I wrote plenty of fanfic in middle school but none of it exists anymore).

We all have stuff we're embarrassed by. At least they're honest that they are embarrassed by a lot of their previous movies (and to be fair, a lot of them are quite embarrassing to even watch, let alone have acted in). As many others have asked on this thread, would you prefer that they try to convince everyone those movies were awesome works of cinematography? We'd all call bullshit on that in a heartbeat and you know it.

I think this might be a combination of modesty and trying to keep the focus on this particular work.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-05 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Because it could very easily derail into discussion of other Marvel properties being done by other studios (Fantastic Four), other comic book movies (The Losers, Scott Pilgrim), television shows (Once Upon a Time, Political Animals), or, you know, actually terrible movies (What's Your Number?, Covenant).

don't know about Chris, but I say Losers!

(Anonymous) 2014-06-05 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Personally I think Jensen hacking into Avengers tower just for shits and giggles (obviously just in boxers and a pirate hat) would be truly glorious. :)

Save for a couple things for them both (and the current MCU films), the majority of their filmographies is unwatchable.

Chris Evans has stated that only two of his films are any good (this a couple years ago, before his current work) and Sebastian's most proud of his theater work.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-05 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
I've never seen the interview clip (not an MCU fan), so yeah he's probably being sarcastic, but ... doesn't Sebastian Stan have a pretty illustrious filmography? I primarily know him from The Pacific, and wasn't that kind of a prestige drama, and hasn't he done indie stuff? Idk I always thought he was an indie guy.
