when I see tags about the color of a specific character it's a good warning to stay away from it, because it's been written by a teenaged SJW and isn't worth my time. In no situation ever requires that information to be in a tag, whether it's a character that's canonically a certain color, your magical ~~original female character of color~~ or a "raceflip". And lbr if it's fic, raceflipping is stupid to begin with. In art I can get it, but there's no point in changing the color of a character unless you're looking for brownie points or a place to vent about unrelated personal issues.

I can see a point to those tags... when race relations are actually brought up in the story. That's not necessarily a sign of SJW-ness, as race issues are canonically part of some characters, or can be done well even when they're just added by the author. Of course, I also don't think those tags are actually helpful, as I'd probably search for '(mentions of) race issues' if I were searching for such fics anyway.

But then it makes more sense to tag like "Race issues" or whatever. "Character of color" and "POC character" is just odd. It just seems totally strange to look for fic featuring any character of color just because they're a character of color without specific interest in the fandom and character.

How is raceflipping any more stupid than any other kind of AU? You change a character's gender, race, ethnicity, historical setting, job, etc., you get a different story, because people are shaped by their experiences and historical contexts.

It might not be your cuppa (modern and depowered AUs for historical or SFF canons, for example, are rarely mine, although most people seem to love them), but some people like to explore those possibilities. I fail to see how that means someone's looking for "brownie points" or seeking to "vent about unrelated personal issues."
