Or they just don't care?

Naw, they do, but they're just willing to get it on their clothing. If you go commando, you will be getting vaginal funk on your clothes. It's just how it is. It's moist and it makes contact with the fabric. Gravity + fluid dynamics = dispersion through the material.

TV characters rarely have to deal with things real people have to deal with for longer than a few episodes. Depending of course on if it's something used as a punchline or some character arc to be overcome or used to write a character/actor off the show.

This reminds me that in all kinds of media, if it's set before this past century or so (or in an equivalent setting), I always wonder how female characters deal with periods. Especially if they're doing something on a regular basis that requires them to be in public. It's like periods don't exist.

I suppose depending on what it is they may be able to use some kind of cloth as "pads", but what if it's something really active or that requires specific clothing that that doesn't work well with? :|a

Is that supposed to be a common problem? I go without underwear almost all the time and rarely have any issues.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Very, very common.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)

It's pretty common. :/

(Anonymous) 2014-06-09 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. Though it seems by the other comments that people have it every day and I don't get it for part of the month and could potentially go commando. Except there's arousal.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-09 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
I wear underwear if I'm wearing a skirt, but only in case of accidental wind issues. XD Pants? Fuck underwear.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-09 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
It's really common. Vaginas should always automatically emit some sort of goop or fluid, as that's its way of staying clean and yeast infection-free.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Fictional characters don't have to deal with a whole host of real-life problems, unless those problems serve to advance the plot. I'm more concerned with why we never see naked women in strip clubs and why women still have their bras on after just having had sex even though they're still covered by a sheet.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-09 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
That bra thing bugs me, too. I know there are decency standards on TV so a lot of the channels can't show or insinuate too much (at least here in the US), but it still really takes me out of the story because it's so silly. As is the perfect hair and makeup afterwards. I'd rather they just not show bed scenes at all if they're going to be ridiculous about it.

I'm jealous too, OP. I've had discharge issues for most of my life, and I'd love to be able to go commando. I really can't go anywhere without underwear and pantyliners.

I've always wondered about the characters who wear bras to sleep.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anyone do this in real life? I guess I could see a sports bra or the like.

Yes. I need the support and find underwire comfortable.

yep, i do as well. i'm actually usually kind of sore the next morning if i don't wear one to sleep. not sure if that's just because i sleep funny or what...

I have a couple times just because I've been so tired that I didn't want to bother getting undressed. It wasn't so bad.

Yeah, a lot of the time. My boobs are just too heavy for me to be comfortable without. I have "sleep bras" and waking bras.

I do. That or a really tight tank top. I find it uncomfortable to sleep with my boobs shifting about.

Re: I've always wondered about the characters who wear bras to sleep.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-09 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I find it more comfortable than sleeping without one.

My roommate does. I don't. We actually have the same cupsize (definitely larger) so its really a preference thing.

I irrationally cringe at the idea of anyone going without underwear, discharge or no.

The feeling of the textures and the openness and just everything about it. Eugh.
That's actually way grosser to me than discharge or bleeding all over your own clothes ever will be.
