I don't have much of a problem with members of the Gaang (From The Last Airbender) being 'bad parents'. [Does DW have spoiler tags?]

Aang being a bad parent and focusing mostly on his airbending son just makes sense. He was going to try to revive his culture and wanted to make sure it was passed on so I can see why he a bit neglectful of his other kids. It also makes him more human imo.

Seriously, I think people may have held onto an idealized fun loving Aang from childhood. One of the big internal conflicts he had was the fact that he ran away and doomed not only his people but the world, and he probably thought that - by to make that right - he had to restore his people by any means necessary.

I know its completely wishful thinking, but i SO hope his kid was Lin. Lin and her "i have my eye on you" thing she did to Korra in, what, episode 2 of the first season? SCREAMED Sokka.

Not to mention in one of the flashbacks...you saw Sokka look over at Toph during this...I can't remember, some kind of meeting/trial thing? God it's been so long....Reaching, I know.

But once again...most likely wishful thinking. *is a Tokka shipper*

I'm waiting until the series is complete to watch it, but I thought that it's already known, about Sokka.
Tokka is great! I think Lin's second parent's identity is open to interpretation, so why not.)

Especially since I don't think that Aang was a "bad" parent as much as an imperfect one. I don't think Kaya or Bumi would say that he was a lousy father or that they resent him or don't love him. But yeah, he totally had a favorite kid and didn't do a great job hiding it. I think a lot of folks have parents in that category: they weren't horrible parents, but they had that problem that makes you roll your eyes when you think about it.

They totally resent him. There's a whole episode about how Aang only spent time with Tenzin instead of Kya or Bumi. Hell, Bumi joined the united forces to try and make Aang proud, and Kya ended up favoring Katara.

I saw the same episodes you did, and I don't think their issues with Aang go beyond the same level of issues 90% of people have with at least one of their parents.
