(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)I also like the original FMA more than Brotherhood. :D
Re: FMA
While heretical amongst manga stans, that point of view is shared by just about everyone I've ever met (including myself) who hasn't read the manga. This leads me to wonder if, as a standalone work of art, the original wasn't objectively better.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)But, I don't know. I just loved how the homunculi were portrayed in the anime (especially Lust), I loved the themes of attaining humanity, and I loved how the series wrapped up and ended at around 50 episodes. I tried the manga, and it just didn't have the same charm to me (though it certainly had some amazing points, too).

Re: FMA
(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)That's it exactly for me. It was the show slapping you upside the head and going, "FEEL SAD NOW, DAMMIT!" And the amount of guilt the boys carried about it was absurd. It's like, of all the crap that has gone down in their lives before and since, why is that the thing they continue to call on all the way to the end of the series?

But Nina...god, that fucked me up for a long time. And yet I always kind of regret that the rest of the show (well at least until episode 23) wasn't more body horror ish like that.
