I hate TFIOS with a burning hatred. That is literally all. The worst. Thing. Ever. I'd rather people post about Twilight than THIS.

I haven't read it, but looking at the movie poster makes me want to throw up. You cannot make terminal illness that saccharine!

I'd rather have a super corny romance over the abusive mess that was Twilight. After seeing one trailer I know I never want to see it (the dialogue makes me want to vomit) but, unlike Twilight, it's harmless.

I suppose that in principle, you're right. And if I were to actually choose what gets more popularity, I'd go with TFIOS. But I cannot deny the fact that Twilight fans leave me indifferent, while the fans of TFIOS make me want to crawl into a dark corner and die. I've never encountered a book that irritated me more.

Why do people hate John Green and TFIOS? I know nothing about them, please enlighten me.

People hate him because he's popular, because the reason he's popular is because he's a man who writes YA, a field long dominated by female authors, and the fact that a lot of critics consider him the best, most revolutionary YA author is seen as suspicious considering he happens to be a man.

Never mind that Green himself is aware of this and doesn't buy critics' idolization of him, and tries to give female authors back their due when critics say he's better than them. He's not doing it ENOUGH; he needs to grovel at the feet of every woman writer in the field and apologize for being a worthless piece of shit of a writer compared to them and for getting his gross man cooties all over YA in the first place (and everyone secretly knows he did it on purpose because he knew his maleness would be worshipped for it, the scheming fuck).

Yeah, I hate it too, to the point that I had to blacklist it on Tumblr, but it still keeps showing up.
