Re: Tell us about widely-accepted fanon in your fandoms
Thor is dumb and yells all the time.
Tony is the only smart man in this group of idiots, and Steve constantly bullies/bullied him.
Re: Tell us about widely-accepted fanon in your fandoms
Re: Tell us about widely-accepted fanon in your fandoms
It makes me really tempted to write a revenge fic where it turns out that Tony is actually kind of a bully, but I will resist. I will be better than that.
I will try to be, at least. |D

Re: Tell us about widely-accepted fanon in your fandoms
The others bug me, too, because while it would take Steve a while to get used to things, it doesn't make him dumb.
Re: Tell us about widely-accepted fanon in your fandoms
For me it's that, while I can see Steve taking a while to pick up what different pieces of tech mean, I can see him picking up how different pieces of tech work pretty fast, if that makes sense? Like, I can see him figuring out a touchscreen phone, but not understanding certain apps, or even understanding why certain apps exist.
Re: Tell us about widely-accepted fanon in your fandoms
I can see it taking awhile for Steve to put together pieces, and the whole history of tech might be hard to grasp, but a touch screen makes sense. You touch it, it moves. It should take him a little time, but he shouldn't be 100% clueless.

But when he's all yelling and everyone else isn't, I have to wonder if the other person even watched the same movies. :/
Re: Tell us about widely-accepted fanon in your fandoms
And I loved Darcy in the movies, but I absolutely hate at least 95% of her representations in fanfic. -_-
Re: Tell us about widely-accepted fanon in your fandoms
And then it will be revealed that he tries not to swear around his new team because he's trying to remain professional, and he's not super comfortable with them yet.
When he finally does end up cussing, Tony's expecting something like "damn" and instead gets something like "fuck your fucking piece of cockshit fuckery".
And yeah, for Darcy. I've read a couple good fis with her in it, but...

Also, digging up this reference forced me to reread a bunch of American Captain, so I got all teared up. Again.

Re: Tell us about widely-accepted fanon in your fandoms
The dumb!Steve one is thankfully getting better, as people seem to have realised after Cap 2 that oh look this dude isn't a fucking moron. It's still hit or miss on him being written as an innocent delicate flower though.
Dumb!Thor is maddeningly prevalent, even after Thor 2 where we got to see just how much he's grown(I'd argue that we see this in the first Thor filme and Avengers too but the fact that people still write him like a meathead after his second movie genuinely baffles me). Like I swear it seems like most of the fandom hasn't seen the Thor movies, or they just can be assed writing his character properly and fall back onto insulting fanon characteristation.
I do enjoy this fandom I swear but there are just certain popular bits of fanon that wind me up.
Re: Tell us about widely-accepted fanon in your fandoms
I don't know, I feel like there's a difference between dumb!Thor and out-of-his-depth-and-super-used-to-privilege!Thor, at least, to me.
But seriously, which second movie did they watch?
The one where they skipped all of Thor's scenes to get to Loki?Re: Tell us about widely-accepted fanon in your fandoms
Oh of course, he's certainly thrown for a loop when he first lands in Thor 1 but he does adapt quickly imo and through into the Avengers and Thor 2 he grows so much and I love it.
He outsmarts Loki twice in the film as well, or do they just ignore that so their precious bb Loki is always the smartest one?(I love the little shit but seeing Thor get one over on him twice was brilliant and well-deserved).

(Anonymous) 2014-06-10 01:01 am (UTC)(link)I don't think I've ever seen a piece of fanon that has actually made me IRL angry before. That idea is just so diametrically opposed to the very basic idea of who Steve Rogers is as a character and who Captain America is. What the fuck.

What?
Re: Tell us about widely-accepted fanon in your fandoms
had PTSD and was affected by the evil glow stick of doommade fun of Tony for no reason. :(Re: Tell us about widely-accepted fanon in your fandoms
(Anonymous) 2014-06-10 02:18 am (UTC)(link)Here's how to identify bullies: they don't invite someone to put on half a billion dollars' worth of supertech weaponry before they'll take a swing.
