Re: Have you tried/are you vegetarian/vegan?
(Anonymous) 2014-06-10 12:10 am (UTC)(link)It was never particularly for the animals, although I do love animals. It was mainly because I didn't like the taste or texture of meat.
I started eating fish again when I went to Japan when I was 16, just to make it easier on my host family and to fully be able to enjoy the experience of being in Japan, and I just kept going, really. I started eating chicken again when I went to university out of pure laziness, and gradually introduced red meat back into my diet after that, although I do make sure I only eat organic/free range.
I doubt I'll ever go vegetarian again, I have a lot more energy and get sick a lot less now that I eat meat again. I'd never be able to go vegan, I love chocolate/cheese too much. But I admire those who do have the dedication.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-10 12:35 am (UTC)(link)I do it for environmental reasons, to reduce my carbon footprint. I am also opposed to factory farming, though I'm not necessarily morally against eating meat, I just feel strongly that animals should be treated humanely.

I could be, though, if I wanted to. It's not as big a deal as I used to think it would be. But giving up seafood would be much harder than giving up red meat and poultry was. :/

But I'm endlessly curious, so if someone with me is eating an animal I've never tasted before, I'll ask for a bite.
Re: Have you tried/are you vegetarian/vegan?
It wasn't hard to do and it was a lot cheaper to eat that way than it is being omnivorous. That said, I still only eat meat every other day.
Re: Have you tried/are you vegetarian/vegan?
From my late teens onwards, when I started having control of my own money, I started buying a bit of meat along the way and now I have it quite regularly - fish, chicken and beef, but no pig products because my church does believe that if you do eat meat, you should follow the clean/unclean guidelines (yes, that means no shellfish either, only fish with both scales and fins).
