Does anyone else think about weird stuff when they daydream?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-12 12:14 am (UTC)(link)I would never work for any government because I don't want to be anyone's weapon. I just want to work for the people.
My superhero name would be "Rocket."
So, yeah, I think of weird stuff. Cheesy weird stuff.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-12 12:30 am (UTC)(link)If not stories themselves, then random noodly bits of research or potential research for stories. World-building details, money systems, how long it takes to get infantry across such a size of country, whether a plateau is geologically plausible here, note-to-self look up when denim was invented, the plausibility of attaching a rope to a balcony and jumping off, while invisible, while three dragons are busy trying to flamethrower the room behind it. That sort of thing.
If not those, then feelings. I sometimes get caught in sensory input. The way the light is, the way the angle of this view makes the town look alien, leaves tumbling under water, the way moss feels underfoot, how big the sky looks, fragments of remembered dreams with the sensations of flying, sense memories connected to actual memories getting me lost in nostalgia. Phantom sounds, like the dull roars of remembered crowds in train stations, or the sound of the eucalyptus tree when the wind rustles through it.
Sometimes it's genuinely safer not to let myself daydream, to force myself to focus, because I can actually fugue on sensory input or remembered input. I've gone walking and woken up on the other side of town with only vague memories of having gotten there. It's not hallucinations, but my brain will apparently take any half-chance it gets to do full stereo surround sound imaginings of whatever happens to float to the surface at the time. Focusing on things with actual plot and detailing, like stories, is actually a good deal safer sometimes.
Doesn't have the same feeling, though. There's always that.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-12 12:47 am (UTC)(link)It's not a longing, I just keep thinking about these situations and how awesome it would be to escape. I don't know.

To be particular, I usually think of mega-crossovers and alternate history stuff whenever I daydream my head off. The current thing I daydream about is this 10,000 year event that "weakens" the border between dimensions, providing an 8-hour window wherein a person (or alien, or whatever) from one world can travel to the next.
As a result, a load of shenanigans ensue. AU's and Titans and magic, oh my!
; There's an alternate Jack Frost and Mami Tomoe that are adopted children, slaying everyone who comes in their way.
; There is a side-plot involving an alien (I usually think "Turian") stumbling into medieval Gensokyo and ending up figuring things out with Hieda and Kosuzu.
; There is a floating concert hall that has a mind of it's own, creating portals that allow various musicians from other world to play their symphonies on the automatic orchestra.
; there are battles invoking SNK Titans stumbling into various worlds.
; of a weird chase scene involving villains and heroes, flitting in-between the Fullmetal Alchemist and HTTYD worlds.
; an alternate universe where every fictional character exists and has a giant Great Gatsby-like party (complete with "a little party never killed nobody~" song).
;and lots more!

(Anonymous) 2014-06-12 04:48 am (UTC)(link)The other day while doing dishes, I started thinking of the cyclops scene from Cannibal: The Musical, and spent like fifteen minutes on how I'd have totally done a better job of pretending to be from the South than the heroes did. I had references, I had plans for evading pointed questions, I had seemingly casual changes of subject, and I wrapped it all in a structure that explicitly did not endorse the racial/economic model of the Reconstruction-era South. Mind you, the JOKE in that scene is that they're terrible at pretending to be Southern, but tell that to my dishes-brain.
Anyone else do that? Or imaginary political speeches in which you outline a common-sense consensus position on thorny issues that will surely resonate with disaffected voters? Or how you'd have resolved a fictional conflict by your eloquent speech that forced both sides to recognize their common ground?
...this isn't just me, right?
