There was once a reasonably popular author in my fandom who wrote a reasonably popular fic that everybody salivated over, but she was a bit of a drama queen.
One day I went and left her concrit on her fic. It was slightly harsh concrit, I admit, but it was not bashing - it contained several details of things that I thought she could have done better, explained why I thought so, and even gave alternative suggestions. (for example, she had the trope where otp A/B isn't together, B wants A but A currently has a boyfriend. Only then she made A's boyfriend evil and abusive and massive scum, which was like wow, that's just a lazy way to break them up... seriously, the guy was a moustache-twirling villain).
It was unsolicited, but balanced (and yes, it also contained praise).
Author cried and flounced and quit the fic a few days later. tbh, I didn't think it was a big loss.
