Have you ever been the reason for someone's flounce?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-11 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Ever inspire someone to leave a community that you were in?

I got someone banned from a forum for acting like a doucheprincess and he flounced on his Deviantart. It was the most glorious wave of butthurt I'd ever seen.

Well, I've been the mod and banned people from communities I modded, forcing them out. Actually now that I think of it, I also caused one of the assistant mods to flounce once. Well I didn't cause it directly, but she disliked one of the comm policies and I was the head mod and I didn't choose to change the policy, and she flounced.

I don't remember what we were talking about but one person's last words in a group I'm in were to me: "Are you calling me a racist?" I wish I could remember what it was all about. I'm pretty sure I didn't call her a racist since I don't like to use that word as a noun or to describe people as a whole, just actions and opinions.

And then a few months ago there was a weird incident with someone I started talking to from a writing community here ([community profile] write_away; come join us!). They asked to see something I wrote and then when I took a few days to get back at them, they decided my silence was because I was offended by their criticism and wrote this long rant about how you can't be oversensitive if you want to improve, and the message included the phrase "I have left your little group" or something like that.

I'm in that group (too lazy to log in here), and I remember that person, and making this face: o.O at their rant.

Seems like they were the oversensitive ones.

Holy shit. I'm in that group and I didn't know this happened. Wow.

What?? I had no idea that happened in write-away, that's crazy.

That reminds me I should head back there. I posted in the comments once and just...kept forgetting to go check. >>;;

There was some wank here that got way out of hand. The OP of the thread thought that I and some other people were dogpiling them when we were actually defending them, and for some reason didn't see the comments where we tried to explain it. They never came back after that day...

No idea. If I have no one's mentioned it to me. Hope not...

Nah, other people have caused me to, though.

Half and indirectly. The mod of TV Tropes described a new content policy. I was one of two people who said that if taken literally, that policy would require deleting the page for Lolita. He said that Lolita was pedo porn and he was sick of pedos using it to defend other pedo porn, and he deleted the page for it. I was one of at least twenty people who either left or were banned in the ensuing flame war. (The page was eventually restored, but locked, with the stated reason of keeping pedos from editing it.)

(Anonymous) 2014-06-12 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
I remember that. Wasn't there much pointing out of the fact that denouncing Lolita was a classic sign of the crazy gone too far in terms of censorship? That is when the guy went completely apeshit and wiped out hundreds of posts in the thread, there was like page after page of "this post has been thumped[deleted]". And there was the Anti-Bronies trying to game the thread to get all My Little Pony material wiped off the site too just for the fun of trolling it, and a load of people pointing out they were trolling got banned too?

Oh yeah. An author on a kink meme I used to visit lost their mind when someone commented that they had a typo in their fill, and they were about the worst bully I'd seen at that point. I ripped their fic to shreds, listed every typo and nonsensical plot point, and they took their ball and went home, basically. So much wank.

Re: Have you ever been the reason for someone's flounce?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-12 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
There was once a reasonably popular author in my fandom who wrote a reasonably popular fic that everybody salivated over, but she was a bit of a drama queen.
One day I went and left her concrit on her fic. It was slightly harsh concrit, I admit, but it was not bashing - it contained several details of things that I thought she could have done better, explained why I thought so, and even gave alternative suggestions. (for example, she had the trope where otp A/B isn't together, B wants A but A currently has a boyfriend. Only then she made A's boyfriend evil and abusive and massive scum, which was like wow, that's just a lazy way to break them up... seriously, the guy was a moustache-twirling villain).
It was unsolicited, but balanced (and yes, it also contained praise).
Author cried and flounced and quit the fic a few days later. tbh, I didn't think it was a big loss.

Not knowingly.

Uh... don't know if this counts, but I did a post drive-by in a comm, with good intentions, luring the community members to another message board where something was being mocked. I knew they would have an interest in this thing, so I didn't see the harm in alerting them to it.

Unfortunately, the "comm 1" members got the wrong idea and started wanking all over "comm 2," and the people in comm 2 figuratively ripped them to shreds. I felt pretty bad about it, but the folks in comm 2 thought it was hilarious and one person even praised me for indirectly bringing the wank. Comm 1 eventually turned on each other and imploded. It was only later I realized how douchey comm 1 actually was, and some of the remaining members migrated over to the community I was at and sincerely thanked me for causing the mess in the first place.

It still feels a bit awkward.

Maybe not a true flounce, but it's as near to it as I have seen anyone do.

I had someone I was friends with for a while on LJ who posted a rant on Fanficrants and got lambasted for it being a "Stop liking the things I don't like!" post. I tried to tell her why she got such trouble but I guess my phrasing was a bit too hard for her and she decided she didn't want to talk to me anymore. All I could do was contact her closest friend and ask them to help her through it.

i made an anon comm once a while back. unsurprisingly, there was lots of drama. i don't remember specific usernames, but i know people left because of it

I tried once, with the person who insisted that "calling people who think Kirk/Spock will happen in the new movies delusional is misogynist" because their refusal to acknowledge certain things bugged the fuck out of me, but I don't actually know if it worked.

Certain things = the fact that Uhura/Spock is actually really progressive when compared to the time Star Trek first came out, and in a way, it was progressive at the time. But no, the 1960's were full of interracial relationships! It was only the gays that were being kept down.

hard to say if they actually fucked off, but I did get a namefag (that's literally what anybody with named account is called on 4chan) banned in 4chan once. Troll debated them till they were so mad they basically did what's happening to deathtoll now, following me thread by thread and responding with the same copy paste about how I was a squirrel fucker every time I talked. This was like, the first week of /co/, the population was low enough that this was possible. The only time I actually made a "we got a shitposter" complaint to mods no 4chan. Guy got banned and never saw the name again.

I want to point out this debate was about SQUIRREL GIRL.

She's not meant to be taken very seriously.

Without being too specific, when I was announced as one of the new leaders of a particular community, a shitload of... oh, I'll just say it, a shitload of MRAs announced plans to flounce en masse because I'm such an objectionable fellow.

And for the ones who failed to stick the flounce, I became known for wielding the banhammer like my name was fuckin' Thor.

well to reason for their flounce is the fact that they're a notorious martyr, but yeah, totally. sorry not sorry for being friends with your friend LOL

anyone remember sugar_spun?

I was one of the main anons arguing with them about Peggy Carter during that initial kerfuffle. I wouldn't say I was the reason though, as the decision to flounce the comm was theirs and theirs alone. Plenty others get called out for various opinions all the time and haven't felt the need to leave.
