(Anonymous) 2014-06-12 02:20 am (UTC)(link)There is nothing in the movie that suggests Mulan "liked" girly stuff. Nothing. There's not much to suggest she hated it, except that it is heavily implied she felt awkward - at least with what it represented and fitting into a role that she was too outspoken for.
I don't recall a single time that Mulan embraced something "feminine" in that movie (by the culture's standard of feminine) - maybe fitting into some traditions, but certainly not embracing them.
You're sparkly dress Mulan doesn't fit her character, sorry. Try watching the movie again?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-12 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)She never, EVER expressed that she hated the way life was treating her. That was Merida. People always project that into Mulan, but she actually is less obvious of a character. She loved being a soldier because she found a place where she could bring honor to her family and not be a whole fuck up. That's her main contention through the whole fucking movie.
