Gee anon, did someone shit in your cornflakes this morning?
Someone's wearing their bitter underpants on the outside today.

And you do know Mulan wasn't a complete tomboy right?
She just didn't want to get married, and cared about her family more then anything else.
I don't really get that that translates to "hating anything that's even slightly girly or fancy"

I think the dress looks kinda pretty. Mulan is also one of my favorite disney princesses.
But no you're right, I've never seen her movie in my entire life and I only like her because she's a pretty picture. I am a total fake Mulan fan. You got me.
I have dishonored the entire disney fanbase.
;(

Uhhh not OP but seriously?

There is nothing in the movie that suggests Mulan "liked" girly stuff. Nothing. There's not much to suggest she hated it, except that it is heavily implied she felt awkward - at least with what it represented and fitting into a role that she was too outspoken for.

I don't recall a single time that Mulan embraced something "feminine" in that movie (by the culture's standard of feminine) - maybe fitting into some traditions, but certainly not embracing them.

You're sparkly dress Mulan doesn't fit her character, sorry. Try watching the movie again?

Hygiene?

That's hardly on the level of a sparkly, flowing gown. She was comfortable in a simple getup at the beginning, and even then she wasn't afraid of messing it up while riding her horse.

Most of the movie she was pretending to be a guy, when would she had the chance to embrace 'femininity' without giving herself away?

How about you watch it again? Mulan seemed pretty pleased to be dressed up. She's happy with her appearance, but the issue isn't that she doesn't like the whole idea of being married or anything--that's never actually suggested, and I REALLY think it would have been if that's the case--the issue is that she can't be the person her parents want. Even though she WANTS to be, even though she's TRYING. She's too awkward, too clumsy, not graceful enough.

She never, EVER expressed that she hated the way life was treating her. That was Merida. People always project that into Mulan, but she actually is less obvious of a character. She loved being a soldier because she found a place where she could bring honor to her family and not be a whole fuck up. That's her main contention through the whole fucking movie.
