I too love Rodney, but he's the type of person that would take getting used to. IMO he would rub a lot of people the wrong way (at least in the beginning), but he's certainly got good qualities as well and maybe those would outweight the not so good ones. Who knows.

Maybe it's best you never have to find out? lol.

I really don't like Rodney. And after about season 2 I really didn't like John. I liked Elizabeth, Teyla, and Ronan.

omg, a SGA secret! *happy dance* I think Rodney is a hun except if he's your boss. Then it'd be terrible. On the other hand, he'd be a very competent boss, which is a rare and beautiful thing. (I wouldn't want John to be my boss too, because he'll make me do all his paperwork.) Ronan is the most difficult to get along with, imo.

Nah, I'd like him. Guess I'm in the minority there, but I've always gotten on with egotistical nerds. They're almost my favourite kind of company. Not to mention that, outside of the whole genius thing, I have more in common with him than most of my friends.

He's exactly the kind of person i would have so much *fun* being around. If i weren't anywhere near as smart as he is (and i'm not), it would be fun to pick his brain. And if i *were* as smart as him (like Zelenka), then fighting with him would be a blast.

So - win/win for fictional world where me and Rodney know each other! :)

I like Rodney but yeah I agree, he is a character that I find entertaining but good god if I knew him I would want to smack him in the face.

Rodney is my favorite <3 But yeah, I've had the same thoughts. Especially since I am not so good with the math and sciences; history and English is more my thing. I like to imagine I'd tune out what's coming out of his mouth and just watch him shout and wave his hands and admire his eyelashes

I really like McKay, but yeaaah I don't know how we'd gel in person. I'm not a scientist and I studied liberal arts, so I feel like he'd just dismiss me outright.

I like Rodney a lot although I wouldn't call myself a fangirl. But you are right, I bet he'd be really obnoxious to most of us and we wouldn't be able to take it. Unless we were Sheppard or Teyla of of course.

I agree. I love Rodney but would probably loathe him in real life. I feel the same way about Jayne from Firefly among others. Great character, not so great RL friend.

I'm kinda with you on that, OP. If I worked for him in real life I'd probably hit him with a fair number of "hostile workplace" lawsuits, I'm thinking. But he's awesome as hell to know in a fictional sense. I love writing him.

There are plenty of fictional scenarios I like that I would probably not enjoy in real life, though. E.g., I like to think I'd love to spar with Teyla, until the first time she flipped me sideways into a wall. :D Sounds sexy on paper, anyway.

There are many characters that I love that I don't think I could stand actually interacting with.

Most of the characters based on Sherlock Holmes. Characters that are overly smug, condescending, self-righteous, or rude can be fun to watch, but would be difficult to deal with. Any 'quirky' character that isn't leavened with at least some common traits or behaviors.

You'd be in good company then: so does nearly everyone he meets in SGA and SG1!

But seriously, do you get that he is a fictional character? I liked the McShep show to death, and McKay and Sheppard most particularly (and Teyla, and Zelenka!), but in real life I would despise someone like Sheppard.

However he is a fictional character who cannot be blamed for being a 'cool' idiot with empty 'heroic' rhethoric and sexist attitudes: it would be like blaming a character for the way an inept fanfic writer made him act in a subpar, OOC story!

Are you by any chance losing your perspective on the difference between real people and fictional characters? Because if so, this is a good wake-up call... :)
