Depends on the part of fandom. Some parts love her because she's WOC.

I mean, she's an elf, and tan skinned, but also blonde. I mean, she is an oppressed minority in that she's an elf. Did I mention she wasn't human?

It's probably the same people who keep harping on about "only drawing the POC version of Inquisition's elf rogue because she's ~too pale~ in the trailers compared to the concept art". And once again, they don't get that lighting in those game scenes is a huge factor and how a skin colour looks is directly connected to lighting.
But then again, they kept whining that Isabella wasn't WOC enough.

Yeesh, thank goodness I'm not on Tumblr fandom or whatever. Then again, I spent more time than I care to admit on the Bioware forums. The mods, and David Gaider (who posted sometimes) were totally amazing, but 90% of the users there were sexist, racist assholes. They were the ones mad that Isabela was "made black" when she was "obviously white" in the original, and bemoaned catering to minorities, etc. Yes, lighting makes a huge difference in these games, because even in the original, Isabela had the second darkest skin tone. Seeing characters in dim light vs bright light really alters their skin. Which is not a surprise, considering that happens irl, too.

yeah, no kidding is skin color even a big deal in the dragon age universe? I don't recall it ever being brought up as an issue by the characters. it's always mages and elves who seem get the short end of the stick

I don't think it is, but skin color is a big deal irl, and I think it still means quite a bit to have POC characters in video games, especially fantasy genre games. Especially in more leading roles. So I can understand hoping to see "racial" diversity in Dragon Age. I am personally glad to see a black woman as a DA3 character, black women so rarely get roles in games.

I never even considered skin color to be a problem in the DA universe. She's an elf, so she gets enough discrimination for that.

I hate POC worship in settings where that doesn't seem to matter in the slightest. Those characters don't represent you or POCs you've put on a pedestal.
