I remember an ep. of House MD where House lectured the clueless vegetarian parents because their kid had spme problems due to his diet.

You do know that House is made up? ;-)

Oh, no! I thought he was a reincarnated early XX century English gentleman with a drastic personality change.

ps: I agree with the person who said that it's possible, but parents need to know what they're doing and use supplements.

You do know that it's entirely possible to give your child a poorly balanced vegetarian diet that causes them health problems and that this scenario appearing on a TV show doesn't make it impossible? ;-)

Ayrt

I know ;-)

But in real life it really is no more likely to be bad-for-kids than a meat-based diet. And they honestly don't need any additional supplements unless they're vegan and, even then, the missing vitamin is in yeast extract and in veggie meat substitutes (at least, in the UK).

And he ended up being completely wrong with that being the reason the kid was sick.

huh, I don't remember that, but I'm sure you're right, I watched it long agp.

Nayrt

He assumed the parents were clueless hippies doing whatever was currently trending in the world of "natural" living without regard to the differences in nutritional needs between babies and adults, but it turned out that they'd been consulting with a relative who was a trained nutritionist and there was something else wrong with their kid.

Sounds like a nice episode. The parents really looked very young and hippy, as I remember.) And then, surely, House found out the real cause of the illness.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-22 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
After he almost killed the child several times right before commercial breaks, no doubt. @_@

[personal profile] solticisekf 2014-06-22 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods* And the reason was some spider web above the baby's bed or something equally strange.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-23 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, it was the side clinic plot. Olive Kaplan. Cuddy was the one who nearly killed her because she thought vegan was abusive.

In House's defense, I think the baby was displaying some symptoms that could be explained by nutritional deficiencies, and it would make perfect sense to investigate the kid's diet in that situation regardless of the apparent diet/lifestyle choices of the parents. House was just a presumptive ass about it, but that's normal for House, so...

[personal profile] solticisekf 2014-06-23 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's normal for him. He's a fin character that way.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-23 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
her diet, the kid was a girl.

[personal profile] solticisekf 2014-06-23 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
why everybody remembers this ep so well.
