Is "manpain" becoming the new fad du jour? I keep hearing it more lately.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-25 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It used to be called 'giving the protagonist (generally male) something to angst about, but 'manpain' is shorter and gives SJWs something else to point and complain at because often times the victims in this scenario are women.

It also could be the tendency for some people to think that mockery is the correct/superior reaction to everything.

I know, but to be fair that attitude sort of irks me.

oh, absolutely -- to work so hard to cultivate world-weary cynicism ...

I find that tendency very tiresome.

Ayeah, I'm right there with you on that.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. That tendency that people get in their early adult stages when they want to prove they're above the angst they used to love, mixed with SJ so it sounds more important than it really is.

Every male character has manpain, every female character is a Mary Sue.

That glimpse of fandom yet to be is on the house.

For some reason, when I hear the word "manpain" all I can think about is a type of pancake topped with chocolate and crushed waffles.

This might be because of me just having a chocolate waffle breakfast. XD

I like the idea of this manpain.

Have you heard the term before and had this association?
al28894: (Am I bad?)

Yep, sweet and filling! :D

Nope, first time hearing this. However, when I read the words "___ du jour" on comment threads or videos, I always think of some dish or soup that I'm craving for and wish to eat. Violence du jour, creepiness du jour, swarm mites du jour...

The mind can be very imaginative if you're in the right mindset.

Thank you!

Yup. It's like "trigger"; it means something valid, but fans latched onto it and trivialized it to the point of not meaning anything at all.
