Wait, was it actually just Cersei killing Robert's bastards? I thought it was implied that Tywin had something to do with it. I looked at the books just recently, and that was what I took away from it.

tbh though, I don't know why anyone cares either way. They've done a lot of things to make every single one of the characters in the show more morally grey than they are written and I think in every case it's a positive change. Jaime got his dubcon moment... what exactly makes people assume that Tyrion also won't get a similar moment later on? He's a dick to the dwarf girl all throughout AFfC, right?

That would be a much more convincing argument if the writers/directors believed it was "dubcon."

To be fair to the directors, there are several points in the books where GRRM actually does refer to the Jaime/Cersei relationship as it was portrayed there. We never actually got to see a sex scene in any of them where Cersei "protested his advances but wanted it as much as Jaime" to paraphrase, but it was certainly an aspect of their intimacy that they didn't pull out of thin air. The fact that they did choose to showcase it definitely does a lot to clue the show audience into the fact that Jaime isn't the "good" twin, as even the books tend to like to imply.

It's true that GRRM probably doesn't see that as dubcon, and he certainly doesn't write it like he does, but the rest of the world has different ideas. It's definitely dubcon, if not outright rape.

tl;dr they weren't going beyond the canon dubcon (that "isn't" dubcon because GRRM has questionable ideas about consent). That's something a lot of people seem to have missed about that particular scene.

there's a difference between protesting and wanting it too much and what the show gave us

It was all Cersei in the books.

Huh. Well, I guess I can't remember everything.

lol but to be honest that's why I like book Cersei better than show Cersei.

Some people think Penny and her brother are Tyrion's children by Tysha (twins clearly run in the Lannister family) though.

Wait, is Penny only 12 or something? Because that's the only way the ages would work.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
She's certainly described as childlike, and compared to Sansa (13-14) in that respect.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2014-06-26 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
That's ... a theory I guess. I don't recall there ever being a mention of her being pregnant or giving birth before the whole gang rape and killing thing, though.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
No, as she only was with him for two weeks, she'd have to have had the children in the Free Cities. She likely didn't know if the father was Tyrion or one of the soldiers until they were born. :(

(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
The twin thing would only work if Tysha was a Lannister though, since it has nothing to do with the father.

Also, that's a terrible theory.

Because Penny and her brother are dwarfs? The chances of Tyrion's child with an average height woman being average height are 50%.
