The Wire / Deep Blue Sea / They Live

A lot of deaths in The Wire, that show was crazy good. But especially Frank Sobotka's. I liked Frank a lot and it felt particularly tragic. I feel like season 2 is my favorite season overall, as well.

Also Samuel L Jackson in Deep Blue Sea, because obviously, and They Live where Rowdy Roddy Piper gets shot to death by the alien guards from the helicopter and then flips them the bird as he's dying, but those aren't quite as serious.

Wow, someone else who really likes S2 of the Wire! I usually see it ranked last in popularity, due to introducing a whole new secondary cast and being "boring" in comparison to others.

My favorite death on The Wire is Ziggy's duck.

Introducing a new cast isn't a bad thing if it's an interesting cast, and it definitely is. Frank Sobotka and Beadie Russell alone justify it IMO.

I think the other reason people maybe don't like it as much is because the villains are less compelling. The show doesn't really tell the story of the Greek or his organization in any way, only through how the organization interacts with the docks. So from that perspective, I can see how people wouldn't like it as much. But for me, expanding the scope of the show to include the failing industry really drove home the show's message. It helped bring across the idea of the decaying, failing city better, when you can see the remnants of a specific industry and a specific community that used to be there. And, again, I liked the new characters.

Ziggy's duck, so tragic! Best duck.

Man, SLJ's death in Deep Blue Sea blew my mind the first time around.

It's such a good scene! They set it up so well! Once you know it's there, you can see it, but the first time I saw it I died laughing.
