Favorite character deaths (SPOILERS LIKE WHOA)
(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 12:26 am (UTC)(link)Non-permanent deaths and sorta-deaths, like those of 50% of all Marvel and DC superheroes, or Daniel Jackson, can count too!
It would be neat if you would put the fandom in the subject line or at the top of your comment so people who don't want to be spoiled can scroll past it :)
Cowboy Bebop/Doctor Who/DBZ
Ten in Doctor Who. I know he isn't "dead" but he is dead to me and I cried when it happened.
Vegeta in DBZ. Both times were super emotional and filled with so much delicious pain (huh...that may be where my love of characters being beat up stems from).
Re: Favorite character deaths (SPOILERS LIKE WHOA)
This is a canon where as long as there is potential for you to heal, there is a chance to come back from the dead (so if you are decaptiated, sorry but no chance, but if you were just strangled or had your throat cut, you could come back! Though maybe not quite breathing). Even in the setting, it takes something special to recover from being eaten by a sort of hive mind spider colony (actually happened).
Night Court/News Radio/Repo/Jurassic Park
News Radio: really really sad. It's hard to say "favorite", because it was not a pre-scripted thing, really, and Phil Hartman just... shouldn't be gone. But the show handled it so well. You're seeing the actors come through the characters a lot, and it's just so heartfelt.
Repo: Mag's big "fuck you!" to Rotti. Just freaking awesome.
Jurassic Park: The lawyer's death. I giggle every time. That probably sounds horrible out of context.
Re: Night Court/News Radio/Repo/Jurassic Park
The episode was really well-done and sad, though, but it's still so awful

he actually is sometimes the very first person to come to mind when this topic comes up

(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)Mad Men / Fringe
And while we're on the subject of killing off Jared Harris-- both of his deaths on Fringe were pretty damn great, but I'm gonna go with the first one because getting sliced in half by a universe portal is more memorable.
Casting directors, can you please put Jared Harris in a nice safe recurring role somewhere where he won't get killed quite so often?! ...Although tbh, I'd love to see him as the High Septon (the High Sparrow) on GoT and I'm pretty sure that character ain't gonna make it through the series.
Re: Mad Men / Fringe
*flails*
The Wire / Deep Blue Sea / They Live
Also Samuel L Jackson in Deep Blue Sea, because obviously, and They Live where Rowdy Roddy Piper gets shot to death by the alien guards from the helicopter and then flips them the bird as he's dying, but those aren't quite as serious.
Re: The Wire / Deep Blue Sea / They Live
(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 02:04 am (UTC)(link)My favorite death on The Wire is Ziggy's duck.

fargo (wow how surprising)
the character himself is nothing to write home about; like his name says, he's just a poor chump. but the way he dies is nightmarish. the villain forces him to sit on an exercise bike, ties his wrists to the handlebar then ties a machine gun to it, and puts a gag in his mouth. he then shoots a few times through the door, calls 911 and gets out of the house, then watches as a swat team blows the door to pieces and shoots the guy to death.
also, boromir.
Re: fargo (wow how surprising)
Well, okay, I think it was an interesting death, but if I hadn't hated Malvo before that scene...that would've done it. How monstrous was he?! That poor guy.
(Seconding Boromir.)
The Walking Dead Game, Spartacus, Halo: Reach, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater
Although it was far from surprising, Spartacus' death in Spartacus: War of the Damned left me a blubbering mess. I thought it was absolutely perfect and extremely moving. Varro's, too.
(One of my all time favorites)
Despite knowing that Halo: Reach wouldn't end well, that game upset me so much. In the best possible way, but still. So much death, but I liked how each one was unique and sad in its own way, and the combination of all of Noble teams deaths (especially Jorge, god. I fucking loved you so much Jorge. I shipped us) by the end of the game made a huge impression on me, so by the time you got to play as Noble Six and fell...shit. It was a very, "Oh no, this isn't what I think it is, is it? NO PLEASE" moment. With the music, the objective (survive), and the chapter title (There'll be another time) I was a mess and could barely see my screen through the tears. Then Cortana started talking and I was well and truly gone.
Oh, and The Boss. Just saying her name, I don't even want to talk about it, it's too hard. She was too perfect' I still can't help but tear up just thinking of her. I loved her, just why?
Sharknado
(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 02:26 am (UTC)(link)Nova's "death" was great too. My family had to pause the movie both times we watched because we were all laughing so hard.
Trigun, FMA
Re: Trigun, FMA
Hughes is about the worst anime death for me though, because of Elicia's reaction. Just...nope.

Person of Interest (S3 SPOILERS)
(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 02:51 am (UTC)(link)But I actually really liked the way they handled her death. I felt that they wrapped up her character arc in a way that was satisfying. I was sad, but I didn't feel like it was a cheap character death. I didn't feel bitter at the writers.
So yeah, I don't really understand all the other Carter fans who are like: "POI SUCKS NOW!!!" If anything, with the recent finale it's gotten even better.
Re: Person of Interest (S3 SPOILERS)
And there's still, you know, five other characters I love on the show, so.

The Lion King: Mufasa. Watching it as an adult, it hits me a lot harder. Mostly Simba's reaction to it. Lion or not, he's a little kid who cuddles up to his dead father's corpse because he doesn't know what else to do, omg. So freaking sad.
Final Fantasy VII: Aeris Gainsborough. I loved the character, just thought her death was so tragic and well done.
