Re: Pairings you don't get
This one has been said a million times before but Clint/Coulson. Like I can sort of see how it could be an interesting idea but I do not get it's sheer popularity. It's weird.
Aragorn/Legolas, have to admit I really don't get it, and I can usually find a reason for most ships even if I don't personally ship them.
Re: Pairings you don't get
IA so much. I don't have anything against people shipping it, I just really, really don't get it. It baffles me when I go looking for Cap fic and Darcy is shipped with everyone.
Re: Pairings you don't get
There's been a really large amount of Darcy/Bucky/Steve fic recently hasn't there? And I'll be petty and say I don't like it, I don't do threesomes but if I'm going to choose in that side of things it's going to be Bucky/Peggy/Steve.But yeah people can ship what they like, I just find the sheer amount of Darcy/MCU character a bit odd.

Re: Pairings you don't get
Oh yeah Kat Dennings is stunning and I like canon!Darcy fine, her fanon counterpart... eehhhh. Yes. Sif+warriors Three, yes I can very much get behind that(tbh my MCU OT3 that I actually legit ship is Thor/Jane/Loki, and that's because of TDW and it giving me all sorts of headcanon things I can do with them).

Re: Pairings you don't get
(Anonymous) 2014-07-01 02:36 am (UTC)(link)The most obvious reason it became a thing is the fact that people wanted to ship a slash pairing in Thor that wasn't incest. Slim pickings. Plus there is the potential for a dynamic fandom likes, which is snarky badass + rule abiding badass (see also: Steve/Tony, whether or not the characterization works).
Under that rational, a bunch of prompts started happening on the kink meme. Some of these prompts resulting in really, really good fic. I ship almost everything in the MCU (or read ship fic of it, anyway) and the best fics in that fandom are almost all Clint/Coulson, imo, and it sort of got the ball rolling.
Another contributor to the popularity of the pairing, though, is the sheer WTF-ness of it. People go through a cycle where they don't understand where it comes from, they try some of the (really good, like I said) fic, and then suddenly there's potential. Most of the C/C fans I know came to the pairing that way.
Oh, and it didn't, at the time, break up any canon relationships in the MCU. Some people have problems with that.
Re: Pairings you don't get
But with these points explained I get more where it comes from. Thank you. :)
