Do you just hate fantastical elements as a whole genre, or do you dislike this movie particularly?

For one thing, because movies aren't their moral messages. It's still a fun, charming movie, even if you dislike the message of the ending.

Also, it's been a long time since I've seen it, but isn't the ending a little more ambiguous and fairy-talish than that? I don't remember reading a moral message into it any which way to be honest, but I freely admit that could be my mind playing tricks on me.

Huh? I'm very confused - I don't know if I've ever seen that movie, but I grew up with the Münchhausen tales and the whole point of them was that every single thing he said he did were lies. He is the epitome of an unreliable narrator.
I really don't understand what this secret is getting at. Is the movie presenting the tales as true stories?

I never saw this movie either but I'm just amused there's a Münchhausen secret. I didn't grow up with them but read the stories in my German classes in school so this takes me back.

People praise this movie because it was well directed and well acted not because of theme alone.

It also had really nice visuals.

I don't remember Munchausen as much of an ideal character in the film.

In its time the movie just set new standards. That's why its valued as a classic.

Oh man, I thought you meant that the actor suffered from migraines and was like: "Yeah, that really must suck."

People praise that movie? I thought it was widely regarded as a flop. (I like it though.)

movie that claims that fantasizing heroes to solve your problems for you is better than acknowledging reality

I don't think that was the message of the movie though? I thought it was more about creating things to give yourself hope in difficult times and not succumb to despair, which is true defeat.
