Well, often a lot of these 'big time cosplayers' get way too big for their britches, and can morph into some really shitty people. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case here too.

I don't know about this particular one, but the OP did say she seems like a nice person.

That armor is beautiful.

...Sorry, OP. I don't know anything about her to be annoyed by, but everyone's different.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-05 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Not wow armor, though.
GW2 norn cultural tier 3 xD

the majority of her cosplays are wow cosplays

Ah, tbh I don't know WoW or GW enough to tell what any of it is. :p It's still gorgeous armor, though! It looks even better 'in person', I think.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-04 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I still hate how you have to be good looking to get to the top as a female cosplayer.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-05 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, you mean you have to be attractive to become well-known in a hobby that's all about appearances?

Color me shocked.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-05 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Which is why a hobby that should have been safe haven for the geeks and nerds and uncool among us doesn't get my support.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-05 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't cosplaying dressing up to look like characters? so it seems only logical that people who look the most like the characters they're dressed up as will get the most attention.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-05 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Accept a lot of cosplayers don't look that much like the characters they're cosplaying as, or their armor isn't exact replicas of the armor from the game/movie/show. Put an attractive woman in a more-revealing-than-original cosplay againt a guy or average woman in a fully-concealing but more accurate costume, and the attractive woman will receive more attention and probably win more awards.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-05 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, no, that is completely untrue. One of my good friends is a Master-level cosplayer. She almost always cosplays male characters and the costumes she picks tend to be fully-concealing and she's won dozens of awards, often against cosplayers in skimpier costumes. Another one of my friends is most decidedly plus-sized but makes beautiful costumes and she can't walk ten feet at a con without someone asking her for a photo. She's also World Cosplay Summit-level. The cosplay I did that got the most people stopping me for photos was a male character in an elaborate full-length coat.

Sure, attractive cosplayers will get plenty of attention just by virtue of being attractive, but it isn't true at all that average-looking cosplayers or cosplayers in non-skimpy outfits get ignored-- if their costumes are good.

Attention, yes, awards, no. (Source: cosplaying for years and winning quite a few awards myself.)

For sure, I definitely saw random dumbasses looking at a tiny, cute Japanese girl in a terrible store-bought costume and a wig without a wig cap (so, black hair poking out underneath) calling her cosplay a of a certain character "better" than that of some slightly overweight but more accurate cosplayers who'd done painstaking craftsman ship. But those are random dumbasses. Actual judges are almost always cosplayers themselves and will be looking for workmanship and the people who ended up with the awards by the end of the day were the people who looked impressive, not hot.

I absolutely disagree with that definition of fandom or cosplay, because it sucks in so many ways I can't even begin ranting or I'll never stop.

Could it be you're just envious? You know, it happens...

Let it go.

I know nothing about her as a person, I just think her cosplay's are fantastic(dat Norn cultural tier 3 armour, unf).

(Anonymous) 2014-07-05 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
I feel similarly. Her work's fine, and I don't have a problem with it, but her persona bothers me.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-05 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes people just rub you the wrong way, and sometimes you don't figure out why until you've been exposed to them for years. This happened to me with an artist and at a certain point I decided "no more!" I didn't want to see their opinions in my queue any longer.

If there's any way you can filter mentions of this cosplay person out of your experience, I'd say do so.

But WoW aesthetic has a certain look to it and most will look the same?

????

And considering, if this is who I think it is, she just released a book on how to with armor making.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-05 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
But WoW aesthetic has a certain look to it and most will look the same?

actually they don't. she has a specific way of making and painting her armor that wasn't prevalent in the community before she got bigger.
otakugal15: (fucks)

[personal profile] otakugal15 2014-07-05 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Gonna have to agree to disagree. It all looks similar to me, even before she got big.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-05 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I can understand how you feel OP (not with kamui tho)... BUT I got this with lindsey stirling.
I just can't stand her dancing and face... and I don't know her at all.

kamui is a wonderful person from waht i've seen online. always trying to help people and encouraging. i think it's nice her face isn't that conventionally pretty (i still think she's pretty)
