I normally am against remaking movies, and releasing them with digital updates. coughstarwarscough

But I wouldn't have a problem with Peter Jackson going through the Lord of the Rings movies and changing all instances of young!Bilbo to Martin Freeman.

s!b I don't ever really like Martin Freeman. It's just the lack of continuity bugs the shit out of me.

In any case, that actor was credited as playing Bilbo Baggins in the movie (it's Ian Holm, btw) and there's questionable legality with removing an actor and replacing them with someone else as a matter of "retouching."

I think the OP just wants one scene to be replaced - that where Holm as the young Bilbo finds the Ring in the prologue. Holm would remain Bilbo for the vast majority of Bilbo's LOTR screentime.

Just look at it this way, OP. The Hobbit is told from a different POV than LOTR, so Bilbo just saw his younger self as Martin Freeman but he really looked like Ian Holm with a scotch tape face lift.

I find it funny that they made such efforts to tie everything back to LOTR but made no attempt at continuity for the scene in which Bilbo finds the Ring. Like, it's desirable that Azog v Thorin at Moria is almost a complete replica of Isildur v Sauron, that Tauriel glows like a cheap version of Arwen, but the finding of the Ring is 100% changeable.

I still have no idea what this secret says. Morgan Freeman? I don't think he's in any of the Lord of The Rings movies, but perhaps I've forgotten.
