And in turn I can't really get into the moeblob-fest that far too much manga is these days. Older manga, sure, more recent stuff? Forget it. (That goes for anime, too.)

Comics don't always have the best artists but at least I can tell the difference between one and the other still. (Though can Scott McDaniel please retire? I liked his work for Nightwing in the 90s but it just sticks out like a sore thumb these days. And I'd be okay with never seeing Juan Jose Ryp's work anymore -- nothing against him personally, but whenever I see his style it triggers flashbacks to Crossed which he did covers for. I never want to read Crossed again.)

At first glance I can't tell the difference between each square-jawed, short-haired beefcake, except when they're in costume, or their hair is different. At least with Manga it more or less depends on the series, but I've had this problem across several titles in superhero comics.

That really depends on the artist. Some artists have some real sameface going on, but a good artist knows the characters' body-types.

The best I've ever seen is Naoki Urasawa -- amazing range of faces with every single character given a unique and realistic (though stylized) look. He's absolutely wonderful. In a lot of manga or anime, absolutely everyone will be so good-looking that when a character who is supposed to be unusually attractive appears, they hardly stand out. Not so in Urasawa's case.

Oda (One Piece) has fairly unique looking characters. He might be the only artist where I have never had any trouble keeping the characters apart, not even once or when I go back to the series after a couple of years.

But they all have the same eyes.

To be fair, Marcus To and Dustin Nguyen should just draw everything. Everyone else can retire.

Manga hasn't been really been hit with moeblob stuff that badly though. slice of life and maybe shoujo manga, sure. But other than that, not really. There's a shit ton of variety, even among recent stuff.

5/10 a couple people took it, and I almost did.
