Weird fearings

(Anonymous) 2014-07-05 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes, I am afraid that when I open the microwave, there is going to be something in there, and it's going to attack me. This almost makes sense when I'm opening to put food in, but I also am afraid when i take the food out, as if the act of microwaving will create the thing or morph the food.

What is a weird fear that you have?

Considering the age of my microwave it's a wonder I don't have that fear myself.

i'm scared of being left alone with machines (and robots, in my nightmares). idk why, i feel like something will happen and they'll turn against me somehow, and kill me in the most horrible way possible. i'm ok if it's just a computer, but if it's factory machines or servers or something like that i freak out. idk, it's not very rational (like most fears i guess).

I feel that way about toilets.

I spent years being terrified of spiders in the loo. Of course, in my case that was mostly because when I was a kid my nan had an outhouse toilet that actually did have spiders in, and I never quite got over it.

As a child, I used to be afraid a skeleton would climb out of the toilet. I realized how ridiculous it was at the time, but I just couldn't shake the mental image. I guess that image should be pretty funny, but nothing scared me like skeletons back then. The fact that they shouldn't be able to move on their own only made it worse.

Opening doors. Looking through windows.

I am afraid one day I will be driving by a field and see a zombie shambling towards me. And I'll have to be the one to take it down to prevent the zombie apocalypse.

I am afraid of waking up one day and being the only person in the world.

I hate having an open door right behind my back. It doesn't help that I've had to work with dickheads who think it's funny to sneak up and grab me when I'm working.

I'm afraid of people suspecting me of secretly being a pedophile and/or zoophile. I don't even like those things as fictional kinks, but after I've seen enough debates about them in fandom I've gotten worried about people suspecting me just based on the fact that I love kids and animals (and a lot of my favorite characters in my fandoms are kids).

But of course, nobody's going to say anything, and I can't exactly reassure people I'm not into that without it sounding like "suspiciously specific denial."

Sometimes I wake up and I'm terrified that there might be a wasp in the room. There is no logical reason that a wasp could get into my bedroom overnight, and they wouldn't be active in hours of darkness anyway, but I still wake up occasionally and am terrified there is one.

That nobody likes me, even my own family, and everybody laughs at me behind my back.

Every time I close a door behind me, I get the weird fear that I could get my hand stuck in it, even when my arm is nowhere near the gap. I have never injured myself by getting stuck in a door, nor can I remember it ever happening, but the fear is still there.

That my reflection isn't a reflection but a doppelganger that's waiting to get me when I least suspect it.

Waking up to find that the zombie apocalypse has started, or some kind of alien invasion has begun.

Someone would attack me from behind the bathroom curtains.

Someone would hit my in the head from behind when I'm looking in the mirror.

Pretty much anything that could attack me from behind.

Loose human hair. Animal hair squicks me out a bit, but I think because I've almost always had pets, I've had to get over that more quickly.

How do I clean my hairbrush? With... great difficulty.

I used to be terrified of loose human hair too. Like, I couldn't sit down on a bus seat if I saw that it had a hair on it. I'm not as bad anymore, and I still obsessively pick at my clothes and bedsheets to make sure there's no hair on them.

I used to have this massive fear of someone hiding in my closet and attacking me when I went to sleep. For years I flipped the light on and checked the closet before going to bed. I've since stopped, but I can't even tell you how; I just stopped doing it.

Oh, and this one is somewhat normal I think, but something or someone grabbing my leg from under the bed. And the funny thing is, I haven't 'seen too many horror movies' because I don't even like most horror films. (Or find them partically scary.) Somehow I still have this fear. (Though, again, it isn't as bad as it used to be.)

That someone will be looking back at me if I look out a dark window, that there's something staring back at me down long, dark hallways, lots of irrational things.

Is fearing an elevator fall a 'weird' fearing? Way more people die...well, most ways than by elevators, but I can't help it; those things feel like death traps to me and if the ride isn't super short or if the elevator creaks I'm probably going to spend the time hoping I don't die and trying not to freak out. When I can I take the stairs; I need the exercise anyway.

I have two! I'm frightened of fish, despite loving the ocean and aquatic life of all kinds. Over the years this has extended to a fear of entering any body of water.
I also freeze in my seat and panic whenever I stop at a light if another car is perfectly aligned with mine, because I worry they'll shoot me with a crossbow. Specifically a crossbow. This isn't so bad now, but I still get very anxious.

when I sleep on my back I have to cover up the left side of my neck because I am afraid something is going to cut it open. Not the right side. Just the left.

I'm afraid of being killed when taking a shower at night/in the evening. I probably watch too many bad shows. (Supernatural, I'm looking at you!)
I'm also terrified of werewolves to the point of having to look away when there are actual werewolves on my computer screen. Even after watching something stupid like Teen Wolf or the Prisoner of Azkaban, I can't stand going in the cellar on my own at night.
More realistically, I'm afraid of getting aids even though I always use condoms.

I have to walk in the street when I'm taking a walk at night, because there are a lot of trees overhanging the sidewalk in my neighborhood, and I have this weird fear that a rabid raccoon is going to jump down out of one of these trees just as I'm passing by and land on me and rip my face off.
