Re: Fan-hated Characters That You Love (or at least like)

Dawn Summers, because I automatically identify with being seen as a bratty younger sibling, and see how that is a really skewed perception, perpetrated by the asshole older siblings of the world.

Usagi Tsukino (I feel like I might be the only person whose favorite senshi she is)

And I don't think she's hated per se, but I like Korra of Avatar a lot. I've been rewatching the show and seeing how so much of her flaws come at least partly from the disservice done to her by the people around her. I mean, she's not just a puppet acting out other peoples' will, but she is someone with no real life experience whose been trapped with high-pressure expectations from age 3. The girl is lucky she can hold a decent conversation with anyone.

Yeah, I could understand some of the Dawn hate as she came on pretty much as a not quite as genius, but still bratty Wesley Crusher type of character. But she did grow up so much over the course of the show that Dawn bashing makes me sad.

I really liked Usagi too. Not from the start, but I grew to as she grew as a character.

Usagi isn't my very favourite because there's other senshi I like more or relate to more, but I think she's impossible to hate. She's so cute and earnest and she tries so hard.

I love Korra too, and my crush on her is pretty much my impetus for watching the show. And I really, really feel in the minority of people who watch the show who actually like her.

I feel the same about Korra. With Aang, he at least got to live a large portion of his childhood without the knowledge that he was the Avatar (and then when he realized how much being the avatar sucked, he ran away because that's a lot of pressure to place on a child). Korra grew up in a compound and at age 18 (I think that's how old she was at the beginning of the show anyway) her only friend was a polar bear dog before she ran away to Republic City. It's pretty obvious in season one that she thinks she only has value as being the avatar and is basically suicidal in the finale when she thinks she'll never have access to her avatar abilities again. I think she's a very interesting character
