I watched it out of curiosity and... dear God, was her voice always that terribly whiny and annoying? (I heard it's the same voice actress.) I highly doubt I'm going to be able to keep watching it, it's like nails on a chalk board for me...

She's also 20 years older. The 90s princesses (Jodi Benson, Paige O'Hara, and Lea Salonga) are all older and sound significantly different. Unless you're a spot-on VA like Nancy Cartwright (Bart Simpson), voices warp.

Sailor Moon's VA might be trying to overcompensate to sound like she used to.

I think it's not even the voice itself but more the way her dialogue is written - there hardly is a single line or even a single word that isn't squealed in a high pitch...

It was even worse in the first anime. You could always wait for the dub.
