Shipping a pairing because you hate most the popular alternative (or "I ship A/C because I hate A/B").

Shipping because you think one of the characters "deserves" the other, or so that one of the characters is with someone besides another character who you think doesn't deserve them.

Glorifying yuri and femslash, acting like you're a more progressive human being because f/f is your preferred dynamic.
++ Using your shipping preferences (whatever they may be) to show how progressive you are.

I remember some person from ff.net who was guilty of #3 (well, technically, it was m/m). Worse, he would practically brag about how open-minded he was in his profile and go around lecturing others for possibly not being as open-minded. It's like, just shut up you are not impressing anyone but yourself.
