I remember liking Joffery from Game of Thrones and was surprised by the amount of hate he had.

But I quit watching the show somewhere in the middle of season 2 and didn't get to see him become the 'most evil mofo everrr' according to the internet.

Still, I thought he was the most interesting one of the characters there.

This is trolling, right?

I mean, you've seen season 1 so you've seen him force one prositute to violate another with an iron poker....

No and I don't remember that scene exactly but I found most of what he did kinda funny and a bit douche-y, yeah, but it still didn't make me like him less.

To try and curb his, as you put it, doucheyness, Tyrion hires two prostitutes so Joffrey can get laid.

Instead he forces one of them to violate the other with a pointed, spiked iron poker - threatening to shoot the other.

It's all done with the same spoilt brat air, as if it were funny.

Pretty sure it wasn't on season one, but I remember my friend telling me about this one.

I'm not saying I would've support him if he was real, this is all fiction, and I liked how his character was played, big deal.

I'm not in this fandom, but Joffrey sounds like the kind of character that's tailored specifically to be hated as much as possible, and due to that I cannot take any horrible, over-the-top, look-how-evil-I-am thing they do seriously. And so I end up liking those characters because they're hilariously awful.

I don't expect other people to like them, though. That's just my reaction to them.

Not understanding the hate might be a bit silly, but why shouldn't people like "bad" characters? Especially in a series where everyone is a royal douchebag, it seems like the silliest reason not to like a character. People like characters that are interesting, good or bad or somewhere in between.

People can like bad characters.

Joffrey though? Feels like stretching 'to each their own' to breaking point. He's not just a 'royal douche', he's a vile human being.

And to categories people as 'royal douches' in GoT's seems to be missing the point anyway. None of them are 'royal' douches by blood, that's why there's a civil war going on. They're just rich, powerful assholes.

There was literally no one who liked him or found him interesting. I'll be able to understand the hate, of course, but goddamn, the people were really going overboard with the amount of loath they had for him. There are many bad characters that are liked, but I haven't seen one for this guy.

Even in fics, alright, characterize him in a shitty way because he is shit, but what I hated was that most of them liked giving him hope for being even a little nicer and then have someone kill him right there (and he dies in every fic I read), I thought it was cruel for his fans but then again, he had...well, no fans.

Okay, your POV is starting to make more sense now. I stayed well away from the fandom so my view of Joffrey is purely based on the books and TV. In which he is a vile, vile irredeemable POS.

But yeah, if I had to read about people's hate boner for him over and over again that would get on my nerves too.
