I've learned that these people often kind of... want to be felt sorry for. I've had so many friends on FB and twitter say things like "no one wants to hang out with me!" So I'd offer to get together, and... nothing. One time I even told a friend she could meet me at the movie I was going to with another friend, we'd love for her to join, and she didn't even say no thank you. I think those sorts of people really just want the attention. They don't want more friends, they want their asses kissed.
