You would think in the American South they would be rare with the "racist redneck" stereotype but they're actually pretty common here. I've actually seen more black and white couples with kids than in the North. But then in North, the whites are divided more along ethnic groups. So, being mixed there is more like Irish/Italian or Russian/French. So, you see more of those pairing than black and white pairings. While as in the South, whites are bunched together. It doesn't matter if you are German or Irish or Scottish. You are just seen as generic white. So, they don't have that cultural division along the European ethnic groups. One less road block.

Tbf, studies have actually shown that things are more segregated socially* in the North, so that probably impacts it. Particularly given the history of the South and how that tends to work more against socially segregating themselves.

*People tend to live in neighborhoods with people of their own race more often than in the South
