Re: What would your ideal fandom be like?

Hmmm....well first of all, it would be with a creator who is either accepting of fanfiction or doesn't care.

People will probably ship, but they don't hold shipping above everything to the point where they disregard or ignore things to claim their ship is canon. Ideally they wouldn't even care if their ship is canon or not.

While some may disagree with the creator and/or have their own interpretations, there will be very few if any fans that hate or openly show disrespect to the creator.

Character bashing would not be prominent, if it happens it's discouraged. (I might sound judgey here but I kinda side-eye people who are are okay with or supportive of character bashing only as long as its the character they hate . That's very hypocritical imo.).

There is a variety of fanmade content, ranging from fanfiction and fanart to Abridged series and fanmade music to fancomics. I like it when fans are creative about their content.

When it comes to fanfic there's a little of something for everyone. Crossovers and AUs, for those who like them, Canon/Original flavor for others, and shipfics for others. And trollfics, if you're into that. ALSO...some DAMN good, and even notable OCs. Because I like good OCs. But yeah...basically lots of variety in the fanfic scene. And kink memes for those who like them.

Also people are open minded about all the different types of fanfic as long as its written well. They don't try to tell people who write a kind of fic they don't like to "keep it in their heads" or assume they must write "shitty fic". They know how to read warnings like fuckin' adults (that's probably like asking for the sun and moon though). They don't justify treating people who write something they don't like like shit with "wahh but I'v read SO many bad [whatever] fics".

People are reasonable about the existence of grimdark stuff and r34 and stuff that's not entirely "Family Friendly (TM)" They don't get all shocked or act like its a new thing and the fans who create it are "literally the worst" or "secretly hate the canon". There's no real friction between people who write more G-PG stuff and people who write grimdark, smut and slash. (Ask me about the Truefan -AntiFan wars of '05...or better yet..don't)

That's pretty much mine. Some of these are based on personal gripes but...I don't think I'm the only one doing that.
