I like the first one! Oddly enough, I don't remember anything about the other two but I know I saw both in theaters.

Me too OP, me too. I never got why people hated it so much.

To be fair, I'm not a "fan", but I grew up watching it iwth my family, so it holds a special place for me.

I like them too. I almost wish I didn't though just because that would make my hatred for that Red Letter Media thing more credible. I couldn't make it through ten minutes of that thing but since I don't agree that the movies are the worst then I'll probably be dismissed as a defensive fan.

I agree. I love all six, and though AOTC is my least favorite, I still love it. It is all about the Saga and the Star Wars universe for me, and I'm really excited to see what 7 and following bring as well.

Sort of OT but I fall asleep during these movies. Every time. In the theater, at home...doesn't matter what the circumstances were, I zonked out. I don't think I've ever made it all the way through any of them.

i don't like them, nor do i hate them. i thought they were the blandest, dullest movies i'd ever seen. it was "meh" from start to finish.

Don't feel bad -- I think the PT films are better than the OT

(Anonymous) 2014-07-07 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Truthfully, I not only like the PT (prequel trilogy) films better but I think they're better films than the OT (original trilogy). And I don't hide this fact in the slightest. I've talked about these films religiously for over three years and all that's happened is that I love them more. And I've watched tons of those so-called "brilliant" takedowns of the PT -- RedLetterMedia, Confused Matthew, the Distressed Watcher -- and they're all very easy to counter argue or to apply their logic to a host of other films.

Love what you love OP and make no apologies for it.

If I seem obsessive, it's because I LOVE these films -- they're the reason I'm a Star Wars fan.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-07 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
The first one was awful. The second was very entertaining. The third... I remember liking it when I saw it in the theater, but I don't actually remember anything about it. I have it on DVD somewhere, but have never even opened it. I probably should at some point. But yes, two out of three of them are not bad movies. They just suffer when compared to something that's been a cultural touchstone for decades, and really, what wouldn't?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-07 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I like The Phantom Menace because of Qui-Gon and Darth Maul. The other two were terrible.

So did I. it's just liked the old ones more because they had better storytelling. But, to be completely honest, if I'd had seen 1-3 without the older context, I'd be very impressed.

They're OK. Good enough to entertain me for a couple of hours, anyway. I didn't grow up watching the OT either, so I don't really hold much love for Star Wars.
I do remember that the theatre for the Phantom Menace was packed and there were only lone seats available sporadically, so my friend and I sat on the stairs to watch it so we wouldn't be separated.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-07 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I like them too. (Though I might have made minor changes, except on III, then I would have made DRASTIC changes - I would have made that whole film as fucking dark as possible without getting a higher rating. The horror of war, the psychological impact upon Anakin, the faith and hope Padme had while thinking of the children and the future compared to Anakin's mentality of "everything's going to shit", included the formation of the Rebellion subplot instead of deleting the scenes...the novelization, that beautiful book, would have used that too)

The main issue, I think, is that people went in expecting the look and feel of the OT. Which doesn't entirely make sense, given that these movies aren't about the Rebellion, they're about Anakin and his downfall, and they're set in a time that isn't completely oppressive. So whereas we saw the ass end of the galaxy where the rebels hid out, the PT takes place front and center of the civilization, where powerful, rich people spend time fucking with everyone else. It's supposed to be opalescent and grand - this is what the galaxy had, what Palpatine messed up, what the Empire ruined and brought down to its black-and-white blandness.

(I have FEELINGS about Star Wars and my anxiety is off the freaking chart today, so sorry for the mini ramble)

I like the first one fine but I am really not fond of the second two, the fights and some scenes are alright but I could not stand Hayden Christian as Anakin Skywalker. I do remember liking Ewan McGreggor as Obi-Wan though.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-08 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I have mixed feelings about the PT, however I would definitely change a couple of things about the storytelling. I so badly want to age Anakin a few years in The Phantom Menace, at least his early teens. It was just so jarring for me to see this character arc and have him start out so young. It really added to the whiny factor that was Hayden Christensen's appearance. I'd also cut out half of the dialogue. He's great at facial expressions but he's not a great enough actor in this role to overcome bad direction/writing. That said, love Maul, Qui-Gon, Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan and Padme as well as the soundtrack. I'll take another movie with those elements any day.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-08 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
I like Sith a lot (except the balcony scene & a few other short moments). The other two. Pieces/parts. I love Darth Maul & Qui Gon, I love the Clones, I love the Fetts, but there's so much bad in them (all 3, overall) that I find them difficult to watch at times.

Well...they aren't perfect films, but I like them too. Not as much as the original trilogy (not nearly as much, even), but they were enjoyable. Sometimes the writing and acting were absolutely terrible, but I could look past that because I thought they were okay films set in the SW universe (which is a universe I love), and to me that was fine; I'd rather have 'okay' SW films than none at all. I suspect most people feel differently, and tbh while I felt that way about the prequel trilogy then, I'm not sure I still feel that way now. (The future SW films don't feel necessary to me, but at the same time...idk, my expectations aren't high, so maybe I'll love them.)

But yea, there were certainly things I loved about the prequel trilogy. (Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan especially. I know most people hate Phantom Menace most, but I never could; I enjoyed those two too much. Also, Darth Maul was awesome.)

Same~

Well...I liked 1 and 3. 2 I stomach for Obi-Wan.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-08 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Me too. Given, I didn't grow up with the original trilogy. I saw the prequels first, so I imagine that had a lot to do with it. I had nothing to compare them to and they had nothing to live up to.

With you, OP.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-08 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Me, too! The second one was mostly okay for me, but Anakin's whining annoyed me to no end. Still, I don't host a hatefest like most other people.

No you're wrong so sorry good bye.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-08 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Whatever floats your boat. If you love bad acting/dialogue, a film that doesn't have a main character (in the case of Phantom Menace) and Jar Jar stepping on shit, more power to you. Watch the Phantom Edit if you want to see a much better episode one.

I'll be over at original trilogy forums loving the OT.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-08 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
I...liked a few bits and pieces from each movie. Overall I basically just liked that they set up the Clone Wars animated series which was shockingly bomb (despite the animation style being totally weird and jarring)

but I ain't here to judge you. Do your thing.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-08 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I like a lot of parts of them, and then cringe at others (Anakin I don't Like Sand Skywalker's wooing of Padme comes to mind.)
