Going back to OP's post, I don't see how this negates Ivanova/Talia at all. Marcus had a totally unrequited crush on Ivanonva, there is nothing to suggest they were trying to erase her love for Talia.

She was never in a relationship with Marcus like she was with Talia, though? (Talia's betrayal being part of the reason why she wouldn't entertain him.) I thought it was pretty obvious Talia and Susan had "gone all the way," as far as '90's TV could probably take them. Susan said she loved Talia, after all. I didn't get a "follow-up with het" vibe at all, is what I'm trying to say.

I completely agree OP. AFAIK though the actress playing Talia chose to leave? So I'm glad they didn't try and copy and paste the other psychic who picked up elements of Talia's storyline into the relationship.

Also Ivanova was super uncomfortable with Marcus which was refreshing in a show.

I get you, even though in my opinion her bisexuality fit her character perfectly.

I know I should agree with you. But Marcus was adorable, Susan's uncomfortableness was interesting and refreshing, and I do ship both pairings. I do think you are right about it being a bit of backpeddling, but in my mind she's totally bisexual.

In an earlier episode of the show an old (male) lover of hers came for a visit. She was definitely bisexual.

I was young when I saw it, but I didn't see the relationship between her and Talia, except that they'd become friends, and I was mad about Marcus (hot, sweet, gentlemanly, tough...I could go on, probably). I thought he was great for her. :)

I think Ivanova's actress herself described the character as bi in interviews, though...so while I can understand why you dislike him as a next love interest, it seems it was intentional.

Anyway, entirely separately from the relationship, I really liked him. I also really liked her. Which is why I don't mind the ship.

I honestly believe this is a product of the times. Joe had just enough clout and the sci-fi community was just progressive enough to get away with a HEAVILY IMPLIED lesbian relationship on tv - but only that. It was the EARLY 90's. Things on TV were different then.

This was definitely pre- Will and Grace era. 1993 - this over 20 years ago.

If this had been aired today, I think we would have seen a much more open exploration of Talia's and Susan's relationship.
