Emmy Nominations

(Anonymous) 2014-07-10 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
What's your opinion? Who are you happy to see nominated? Who do you want to win? Who do you think will win? Do you give a crap at all?

I'm just pissed that Tatiana Maslany (from Orphan Black) was overlooked again. What does that woman have to do to be recognized besides playing a dozen different, clearly distinguishable characters and acting opposite herself flawlessly?

I wasn't expecting it, but I think there should have been more GOT nominations. I mean, Dinklage and Headey deserved nominations, but there were a couple of others who did as well.

Also, as much as I like Modern Family, it has gone downhill and doesn't really deserve the nominations it gets. I would have liked to see some HIMYM nominations (Coby in particular) or really any other nominations besides modern Family.

I thought Dinklage did get a nomination. It was just under supporting actor because it's an ensemble show or something? I should probably look this up instead of talking out of my ass.

He did and Headey did. I wanted more nominations. Like Gleason and Pascal and most of the women. One or two more nominations at least because they all killed it this season.

I haven't seen all the noms so can't speak to that. re: Tatiana, I can guarantee it's because she's on a genre show. People who give out mainstream awards like the Emmys don't like genre shows and hardly ever recognize performances from them.

but ... wouldn't you consider both GoT and AHS genre? (I would).

Probably, but they're slightly different genres. Also why I said hardly ever instead of never.

Genre shows are almost always snubbed unless they have build in name recognition like with Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story or they are British productions like with Game of Thrones. I think the deal with Game of Thrones is more of an American belief bias that British casts = Excellence. If Game of Thrones had an American and Canadian cast, I would bet that they would have not been nominated.

fargo got so much recognition! i'm ecstatic :D

i'm so torn between bryan cranston and matthew mcconaughey for lead drama actor though. i want both of them to win!

Be on a channel other than the BBC? It's not terribly common for BBC shows to get emmy nominated unless they're especially prolific and get pretty good ratings (by American television standards, Orphan Black really doesn't). The fact that it's Sci-fi really doesn't do it any favors as well. The Emmy's don't branch out a lot, so a lot of good shows don't even get on their radar.

Re: Emmy Nominations

That really bugs me though. Because can't we at least pretend that Awards mean anything and are about skill and ability and not commercial success? It's like the opposite of the Oscar's where commercially successful automatically means not worthy of "serious" critical acclaim.

I can't believe Hannibal didn't get nominated for at least cinematography. COME ON.

WTH, I didn't even realize that Hannibal didn't get nominated for anything. That's...wow.

I was coming here to say the exact same thing. Not only is she an amazing actress from an emotional standpoint, her TECHNICAL professionalism is just ... it's bloody amazing.

You really do forget that there aren't 5 different actresses playing those parts.

I don't really follow them, but I heard the Simpsons didn't get nominated for the first time in forever.

And apparently Big Bang Theory did, which I don't care about in the slightest.

Wow. Shocker.

Though why the fuck was South Park nominated? Again!

I hope Allison wins for Fargo (if only one of them wins, I hope it's her), and I'd really like to see Colin Hanks and Martin Freeman win too (though Billy Bob was amazing, and if Idris Elba wins I'll be glad for him because he's incredible), but honestly...if Fargo wins anything I'll probably be happy. (And it has to, right? ...Hopefully. It was nominated for so much.)

Kate Mulgrew as Red from OitNB got a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

She is pretty much the only one I care about this year, and if she doesn't win I will riot.

Re: Emmy Nominations

(Anonymous) 2014-07-11 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
I'm torn because I love Mayim Bialik and want her to win finally, but Kate Mulgrew is amazing. The problem is, one is on a sitcom and the other a dramedy. They shouldn't be competing in the same category.

The only thing I mildly paid attention to was best animated program I think and Korra was shut out.

I'm more surprised that Emmy Nominations were in the middle of summer as opposed to early September. Is it usually like this? I pay more attention to Oscar Season.

Re: Emmy Nominations

(Anonymous) 2014-07-11 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the Emmy noms are usually announced early to mid July with the Awards sometime in late August/Early September.

I'm just so frikkin' mad that The Americans was completely ignored. Matthew Rhys was a force of nature this season, and the fact that Keri Russell could even keep up with him is worthy of a nom.

Not to mention the writing! The season's storyline was nearly flawless. Dammit.

Re: Emmy Nominations

(Anonymous) 2014-07-11 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
The fact that Tatiana Maslany wasn't nominated shows what a joke the Emmy Nominations are. I just can't take them seriously after this.

I am a little sad that Hannibal didn't get nominated for anything, as well. (But to be fair, I did think S2 wasn't quite as good as S1.)

I heard that Glee got nominated for Cinematography, and Hannibal didn't.

And that's just sad.
