Dismissing tumblr as a whole. So many people here are so quick to say "Well, not all of us on FS are _____" while saying "Tumblr is a cesspool."

Obviously exaggerations matter, but it seems like no one wants to admit that there are places in tumblr with good ideas and viewpoints about various -isms.

It's my experience that anything good on tumblr is ultimately ruined by fanbrats and SJWs.

Yeah. I feel like I'm on an alternate reality tumblr or something because the things everyone complains about here are not things I see all the time. I'm sure they're out there and they're obnoxious and are probably even more common than they seem to me, but I have a really easy time avoiding them so the generalizations are so weird to me.

I never see these "SJW" going on a rant and using SJ to bully people - it just seems like a silencing tactic. folks can be annoyed when they've been shit on all their lives

I have seen this and it wasn't pretty. But it depends on the fandom/tag a lot and it's also not as prevalent as some people would like to have you think.

A while back a SJW bullied one of the Gamegrumps presenters and accused him of queer erasure because the SJW was convinced he was bisexual (despite him repeatedly stating he wasn't) and she posted a private email conversation in which she is very manipulative and treats him like the bad guy all for insisting he's not what she says he is. (And yet people like her are perfectly happy to scream their heads off if someone else uses the wrong label, but they're exempt!)

He promptly rips into her for violating his privacy, and while she immediately backpedals it's very clear she and her little friends still stand by their actions.

It's not a matter of "legitimate point", it's a matter of "none of your fucking business what anyone's sexual orientation/gender/whatever is and what they choose to make public about it".

I have seen that and I try to tell people to cut it out when I do see it.

What I don't see nearly as much of as people say there is is people acting like their fanon is canon. What I do see a lot of around here is:

"That's not canon!!"

And I'm thinking "they never said it was...?"

Or a lecture about how it's fine to have headcanons as long as you don't act like it's canon, which is true, but there was no indication that they needed to hear it.

I'd add one other thing but that will probably get some of this aimed at me now.

Sometimes I get annoyed when people say that a character must be 100% straight because they have only been seen with members of the opposite sex. That argument completely ignores the reality of bisexuality and being in the closet or in denial and it's annoying. Doesn't make the characters queer in canon (should I repeat that in bold so no one lectures me on that?) but the arguments are still annoying.

Yeah I have literally never seen it either. I grant that it might be a result of my pew pew fandoms, but seriously, it must be easy to avoid if I can get by without so much of a whiff of it, let alone full on drama.

And dismissing anything as SJWs. At this point in time SJW has lost its meaning, which is a shame because it was a good term for lazy, slacktivist, extreme keyboard warriors.

Yes. I mean, I complain about tumblr a lot, too, but in the end I'm still on tumblr myself and I'm actually quite content with my accounts/friends/tags. So I don't get all those people who are really active on tumblr, yet only seem to have hate and loathing for it. If it sucks so much, delete your account and leave? I get it, some things are shitty, but it's possible to avoid them, really.

This is why I always make sure to say that I have a nice little corner in tumblr that is mostly free from the annoying things.

IA. Some folks on tumblr have excellent points, but people seem to remember the ones who overreact, not the one's who make sense. (In general it feels like people focus on the negative more than the positive, so that isn't even just a fandom thing. And to some extent I even 'get it', but yea, I think you're right; tumblr isn't always terrible and not everyone on tumblr flies off the handle at the slightest provocation. ~~Not saying it doesn't happen of course, just that it probably doesn't happen as much as some people imply. At least not in all fandoms.~~)

I agree with this, sure there are bad parts of tumblr but it's like that with any website tbh, it's not all good. But I've also managed to stay clear of most of the more uh, extreme SJW's so that probably helps.

(I think the only thing that does bug me is how easy it is to spread misinformation around on tumblr but honestly this has been happening on the internet for years, tumblr's interface just makes it easier.)

I mean, yeah, you can find the rare parts on Tumblr where people aren't batshit crazy, but the SJ bullshit seems to pop up everywhere.
