I'm kind of tired about people bitching about how "a lot of people donated 17k to it but not to people who could have REALLY used it" . It's understandable to laugh at how bad it went, but getting so pissed that 500 people didn't donate 50$ all to one person when they got nothing out of it...

Yeah, I agree with you there. The difference between the money spent on Dashcon and these people that ask for money is plain and simple: the former is seen to have a quick, "tangible" reward (the con stays alive), and people like that kind of reward, while the latter doesn't quite have that much urgency to it because a good portion of people care more about their self-interests. It doesn't help that there a lot of people that need donations compared to a single con, regardless of the quality of said con.

Donations to people in need would give a person a good feeling in your heart, but sadly that doesn't compare to the instant gratification of supposedly keeping a convention alive to do... Dashcon stuff.

... In this post one can see my high opinion of society, whoops. Both sides are annoying at this point.

More specifically multiple people saying they should have given money to help trans people. Seems rather specific and....bitter?
