It's a huge mess. The folks behind Welcome to Night Vale were supposed to perform at it and shelled out money for airfare and everything only to be told by the organizers when they got there that they wouldn't be reimbursed for travel costs or paid for their performance so, unsurprisingly, they left. That's just incredibly unprofessional of the con organizers and I wouldn't blame the WTNV creators for being pissed. Jeffrey Cranor was pretty gracious about it though on his tumblr (although you can tell he's displeased by the situation).
