No, I disagree.

I've never seen creativity boost derived from any ship war, only resentment and nastiness. But then, I endured too many barren discussions from petty, stupid reasons when I was a kid to ever find conflict entertaining.

I'd much rather like fandoms when everyone can ship whatever they want and stop nosing in other people's preferences.

This. I usually see bitterness and out-and-out character bashing more than anything, and I think any creative works that come out during ship wars are in spite of ship wars, not because of them.
