Taking your birthday off from work isn't so weird. I do it all the time, regardless of what day of the workweek it falls on.

I didn't work the day I was born, so I sure as hell ain't gonna work on any other birthday if I can help it.

By the way, you don't need to save up adventurous stuff for your birthday. If you want to have an adventure, have an adventure. You can even do it for one of your friends' birthdays, or just a few random non-special days during the year.
