Barney died

Not too far from the truth, honestly.

Probably would have been better for his character than what we got.

... I was totally scrolling, didn't read the title this was a reply to, and thought you meant the other Barney.

He's fucking extinct.

Barney and Robin divorced after 3 years. All their character development is destroyed. Barney has a kid with some random woman. Ted and the Mother get together and don't actually marry for several years. The Mother died. Ted's kids tell him he still loves Robin and to go get her. He brings the blue french horn to her window. She smiles down at him and it is clearly suggesting she wants him too even though we had no evidence that she still had feelings for him up until then.

Basically, none of it worked for any of the characters. It was a complete bait and switch on everyone we'd been given up until then.

I liked the finale. /o\

Me too, well I like that Barney and Robin got divorced because then it made sense why the writers made them so horrible together. Them getting married with 2.5 kids and a dog and white picket fence is a good fanfiction idea but never workable in canon, so when the writers kept going there and ruined both characters in the process, the show suffered. I always thought the creators shipped T/R and didn't like B/R much but used BrOTP for ratings.

The last five minutes sucked because Ted/Robin made no sense after Season 3, but I was satisfied that what's her face, "oh she's so PERFECT, look how PERFECT she is, she is sooooooo PERFECT and cute and lovely and quirky" Ted's wife croaked. I never wanted to see Ted's wife until the finale and them trying to shove her down my throat showing me how she lived up to Ted's cartoonish standards, with everyone fawning over her, made me cringe.

I was also glad that Barney ended up alone. I'm not sure why the shippers still wanted Robin with him and insisted he was so much better for her than Ted. She went from an interesting, funny, mature woman with dimensions and dreams and chemistry with Barney, to a badly dressed Barney-obsessed, crying every other episode, dead-eyed, shrieking prize for Barney the popular character, and he treated her worse than shit and he became more of a sociopath. I guess fans wanting them together was a mixture of self-insertion and stubbornness.
