I had never really registered skippydelicious before yesterday, but their comment involving a person with Tourette Syndrome deeply offended me, as I have a similar condition. Of course I agree that having a disease like that is not some ~ironclad excuse~ for poor behavior, especially that which injures others. But mostly I'm pissed because it was a completely inaccurate comparison for the topic relating to the secret!

Yeah, agreed. They seemed alright at first, but there's been a few instances like that, so I'm kind of iffy on them.

Agreed here. I've started skipping their comments because I just can't be bothered to read them any more.

Yeah, and in the same batch they made that really pointless nasty jab at Deanna Troi on a secret where it really wasn't needed or wanted. I was so glad that like three people went "eyeroll" at them for that.

They've done a few similar things. I kinda got the feeling they were a pretty mean-spirited and unempathetic person.

I was the OP of the Troi secret and when I saw those responses I just laughed. I love you guys.

I'm just curious about that, when did Troi get re-evaluted? Last time I was in TNG Trek fandom she was still, rightly, getting blamed for steering the Saucer!Prise into a planet and being vacuous about sensing "something". When did we start being nice to her? Also, does TNG fandom still find Geordi creepy?

It's harder to take that stuff seriously so long after the series is over. A lot of it seems more like a charming oddity of the series than something that she deserves hate for. and Marina Sirtis is really cool.

Geordi is creepy forever though.

Oh yeah, not arguing over Sirtis. She's always been fine, character is not actor and all that, should go without saying, just Troi always seemed utterly useless at best in the show. Ah, well TNG was amongst my first fandoms, you never properly forget your early fan!rage.

Most people outgrow their early fanrage, not remember it forever.

Most people DO think Troi was useless in the role she was given. Most people also think she was a nice and likeable person who doesn't deserve any hate.

They also think that hating on characters in fandoms that are long past gone off the air is childish and stupid -- you hate when a fandom is new to get your frustration out of your system, then you start trying to think about it and figure out ways to interpret the canon and the flaws in the canon in fresh and interesting ways.

Also, spewing hate randomly in a secret that has nothing to do with her uselessness or usefulness, and is all about her chocolate fetish, is viewed as being in bad taste, obnoxious, and emblematic of the type of fan who has to spread their whining all over everything. People don't disapprove of character hate because they think the character is actually great but that non-great characters deserve hate, they disapprove of it because character-hate is immature and tacky, doubly so for old fandoms. At least on FS.

FWIW, very few people hate on Wesley Crusher either. It's just viewed as a sort of empty and pointless and annoying thing to do.

AYRT - I don't know what fandom thinks and I don't care, I just watched TNG and I like Troi.

To me, it just seemed an unnecessarily harsh comment on a funny and positive secret about Troi. Y'know, if it were a critical secret or something else looking to more deeply analyze her character, and you had commented with what you did just now, it would be pertinent to the secret.

But it was a lighthearted secret and it seems like a big overreaction to just jump right in with a "lolz but she's an idiot" comment. What's the relevance of that sort of middle-school level joke?

I dislike them because of their whole attitude regarding fanfic and their reactions to stuff they don't like.

Also the fact that during a conversation about MLP crossovers they started ranting about "self insert sues" and "pony sonas".

Also that sounds pretty shitty of them as well. Just wow. I kinda think a lot of people with Tourette's would be embarrassed of their issue and feel bad about it, not wanting to draw attention to it. That's how I am about my OCD tics anyway.

They are one of the angriest people on fs. Being passionate is one thing, but...wow.

Yeah. Normally I don't notice them, I don't think I usually hang around the same secrets as they do, but there's been a couple of times they've registered with me, and it usually hasn't been good. Just sort of a vague 'I don't like you' in their direction.

Agreed.

They're just so abrasive and rude about everything. Not snarky or opinionated or passionate, but actively dismissive and angry and stuff. It's really unpleasant.
