F!S Anon Meme (the Tenth?)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required (for those who struggle with captchas and stuff).
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.

That's about it!

List of General Threads (for easy access!)
a. Vid Rec thread
b. Positivity thread
c. What do you think of other F!S members?
d. Best Comments thread

f. Confessions thread
g. TMI thread
h. Which fictional character would you be...

Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness.

The author is an incredible attention-seeking dillbag who uses practically any forum they can find to shill themselves and try to whoop up a posse of people to agree with them on who to dump all over.

Plus, the fic itself is so over the top any claims of it being "canon" are laughable.

I think I tried reading it and could not get into it.

Plus, wasn't thanfiction actually a sockpuppet and duping young fans into donating money or something? Unless that's what you were referring to.

Just found this entry: http://daydverse.livejournal.com/355215.html So if he (she?) was mentally ill... well, that does explain it, and makes me feel a bit bad. :/

No. Andy is still a piece of shit, mental illness or no.

DA

Um, Andy is a well known pathological liar and remorseless manipulative con artist over multiple fandoms. Besides scamming people out of thousands of dollars and brainwashing several people into joining his cult where he psychically channels fictional characters who are real and exist in other dimensions (not a joke; this is literally what he has convinced people that he can do), he contributed to the situation which led to one of his friends/cult members being murdered. And then set up a dodgy fundraiser and profited from her death.

He might seem okay and fairly interesting and like he's 'reformed' now, but he has never properly apologised or compensated for any of the harm he as caused, except in a wat that would benefit himself.

He is really, really, an awful person.

But make up your own mind. You can read more about his ten year shit over fandom in general here:

This is how I feel about Harry Potter and the Method of Rationality. And even moreso about the pretentious douche fans it attracts.

I thought it was interesting for about 40 chapters but it didn't go anywhere with it's meandering philosophical bullshit and I gave it up.

Oh god, I hear you. Yeah, the author makes some good points? But some of the plotting is so ridiculously contrived it's hard to see why it's suddenly an omgawesome fic.

Yes, me too. I liked it at the beginning, but it was so OOC that I gave up.

I feel this way about "After the End", a REALLY old school Harry Potter fic. I mean, some of it is that things that became cliches weren't at the time, but it's not as... epic as everyone seemed to think it was.

I've never heard of this one. It's Harry/Hermione by someone called Sugar Quill? I never shipped Harmony back in the day, so I guess that's why I've never heard of it. It's epically long for sure (over 600k!), but those who remember it fondly are likely tainted by nostalgia goggles. There's some old school, Three-Year-Summer fics that I think fondly on, even though I think if I reread them I wouldn't like them now.

No no, it had a H/Hr teaser at the beginning (Hermione starts out saying "Harry, I love you" or something, but it's part of a protection spell, but it was on a Ron/Hermione site called Sugar Quill, written by two hardcore R/Hr shippers actually. So you may have liked it! Were you into the sites at all or just the LJ side of things?

And yeah, I have the same thing with a few TYS fics. Some of it is that my own reading standards have changed, I'm sure. I know I re-read a popular that wasn't awful or anything, but at the time I (and the rest of the OBHWF side of fandom) practically hailed it as The Next Best Thing to Canon, and it really... wasn't.

Ha! I read the beginning so that's why I thought it was H/Hr.

I was on the side where I pretty much read Snarry and Drarry fics I found via various rec blogs like painless_j and Switchknife. I know I started out reading R/Hr, because I remember reading some fic where they stayed with Hermione for Christmas or something and Harry hooked up with and OFC, so I really have no idea how I got into Snarry (and, to a lesser extent Drarry). It might have been Dementor_ Delta's fault because I read Parseltongue-Tied out of curiosity and liked it. I was pretty much a fic reading lurker.

Ahh, yeah, that's how I turned out, then I got into actually participating in the forums and stuff. I got into LJ a bit after the fifth book, but it wasn't my main source of fandom the way I think it was for some people until a lot of the sites I frequented died or became inactive.

I remember that fic. One of the first ones I read. All four of the characters felt extremely out of character to me. At times it seemed as if Harry and Ron had actually swapped personalities.

oh my god, that was 11 years ago and I still remember how incredibly long it was. that is all I remember though - maybe hermione went to study to be a healer in greece??
It might have been overrated but it was better than the vast majority of shitty R/Hr I was reading back then...

That's probably the only R/Hr fic I've ever enjoyed.

I actually quite enjoyed reading the first part of the series, but the author's notes and attitude (and also the refusal to know when enough really is enought) put me off the rest totally.

thanfiction is a good candidate for the worst person in the entirety of fandom. He is a truly awful human being.
