I get it. I feel like I've outgrown a lot of fandom things (in the boredom way, not the maturity way) and it makes me a little sad; I had such good times a couple years ago, and finding a replacement hobby with the same built-in community is hard. :/

Have you taken a break from this stuff? Sometimes absence can renew your love of something. Fandom and shipping interests come in waves for a lot of people and sometimes it comes back when you least expect it.

I kind of feel this way sometimes too. After interacting with some people on Tumblr who are the definition of human scum, I'd rather just not be too involved with fandom anymore. I still write the occasional fic, but that's about it.

I can't blame Tumblr entirely for my waning interest in fandom, but, yeah it's not a place for discussion of any level--I mean, even the platform itself isn't set up to foster that.

I'm like you, anon. I write the rare fic and stay low. It's almost like...not being in fandom at all. I miss people to squee and chat and create with.

Take a break. It comes and goes in waves. You never know what might happen after even a long dry spell.

I'm going through this now too, OP. Empathy.

Likewise, OP. I really miss being one of those yaoi/shipping fangirls, but at the same time, I feel like it would be embarrassing to go back to it, and I have a lot of shame/anxiety problems as it is.

Also, that picture you used is indeed very pretty. Not my fandom, but pretty.

Don't feel bad honey. Everyone has to grow up sometime. Get out of the house more, interact with people face-to-face, take up a sport. Fangirling isn't the be-all, end-all of existence.

Hmm, I'm outdoorsy, have a pretty big social circle I interact with and still like fangirling. The one does not replace or rule out the other. But, I get stuff from fandom that I don't really get in other aspects of life. I can sort of do plot/general discussions with my bf and some select friends, but shipping is almost exclusively something I do in online fandom. So I get OP.

Nice projection, dear.

Yes, if someone fangirls, then that is their one and only interest. No one who fangirls ever gets off the internet.

what the fuck.

The period during which I was most active in fandom (high school/college/grad school) was also the period during which I had the most active offline social life, dated more, and had more non-fandom-related hobbies and pass-times, all in addition to going to class, getting an International Baccalaureate diploma, writing a master's thesis, and working part-time.

Right now, my job involves travel and keeps me outdoors a lot and believe me, that's not the be all and end all of existence, either. It's actually kind of lonely.
